hey guys,
I am fairly new to this and just have one quick question. I've been growing my hair out from a crew-cut since about September. It is now pretty much February and I was just wondering what to do about the hair in that area around my ears that's just above my sideburns and just in front of the tips of my ears. The hair there seems to want to coil out of control, but the rest of my hair, top, back, higher up on the sides, is fairly flat and straight. Should I trim this area and let the hair above it continue to cover it up? And also, how do I keep my sideburns neat? They go to from the base of my ear, then just mesh into that coiled area as they go up. I want to keep them neat, but don't know how high I should trim them and/or if I should have them cut in such a way that they become separate from the rest of my hair. I'm very sorry for the wordiness of this post but I'm trying to describe it as best I can and have no camera to take a picture. How did you guys deal with keeping this area neat on your long-haired journeys?
Thank you all very much for taking the time to read this post. I appreciate any help and/or pictures you could direct me to that will give me an idea of what to do about this. Thank you again!
It may seem the easy option now, but in the future, if ever you want to tuck your hair behind your ears, it'll be a nightmare. Loads of other reasons, pony tails and what not.
it's generally a bad idea in my book. But i'm pretty sure there are a few people here who do this and are perfectly fine with it.
Do not cut it. Bad idea. I have trouble sometimes with hair around my ears that tries to poke out and look stupid, just use water and try to lay it down flat. Mine doesn't do it nearly as bad, I'm about 7 months into it though.
I remember that! I cut them once cause I thought the hair would lay on my ear half covering it or something like that. It ended up being a mistake, it was just annoying as hell and it tickled my ears.

My advice: DON'T CUT! I've been in the same position, having to deal with hair on the ears. My first inclination at the time was to trim them back. But I toughed it out and let it keep growing. The most frustrating part of growing is dealing with hair around the ears, trust me. Ya just gotta put up with it and get through it. :-)
