So... now that issue's all over, taken care of, and moving forward, back to the subject that united us all to begin with and led to the original foundation of this board. :D
My question is this: is hair thinning advisable? I'm considering getting another maintenance trim (it's been almost two months and people keep pressing me that "it's only healthy to trim no later than every two months"; I understand that this guideline depends on a number of factors such as hair type, hair styling procedures, hair products used, and the type of lifestyle lived, etc., but as a general rule of thumb is it good?). Now I'm thinking about getting my hair thinned out too using one of those combs with blades in it, so that my hair continues growing long and fine as opposed to thick and bushy. Is this thinning process wise though? Thanks.

I don't recommend it. If you thin your hair, you will have a lot of hair shorter than... the long (of course...) and it won't be necessarly easy to manage. With thick and all-in-one hair, it's easier. And keep in mind that we, men, will potentially have our hair thinned... naturally ! :)

Hey now,
Thinning your hair is really up to you, if you like the style and think it will fit you, than go for it.
And about trimming.
There is no rule as to how often one should get his or her's hair trimmed, if it is in bad shape, it has split ends or is dry, than often trimming is the only cure for that, but if your hair is otherwise fine and healthy, than there really is no need to trim, unless you want it.
If you wish to grow your hair longer, than I would suggest you trim only once or twice a year, as trimming every two months would likely maintain your lenght where it is now.
The average human hair grows something like 1-2 cm's a month, so even by trimming 2 cm's every two months would likely halt the growing process.
Your hair may wind up thinning itself, like mine did. Then you'll wish for it to be thicker.
If you see balding sometime in your near future (i predict balding for myself in 5-10 years, unfortunately), then hair thinning is a bad idea. If there's no balding in your near future, then go ahead, layering and w/e isn't a bad idea, especially if your hair is already long (thinning while it's relatively short might make dealing with it harder).
