... so little time!
I just wanted to drop a quick note, congratulating all of the members who have posted updates recently: Evil Milkman, nuttidave, David N, Tristram (on the hair AND the sticks!), Agent XXL, Schultz, Sugarcane, Glinka, Duncan Roy, Chris A, Monroe, former prez Justin, Todd "Altman" Brennan, Simon (simpa88), Robert, AND ALL THE REST OF YOU WHO'VE POSTED UPDATE PHOTOS RECENTLY... your hair is looking better and better all the time! It's a big part of what this community is all about--finding and sharing inspiration, support, and camraderie.
Texas Long Hair, I was sorry to learn that you had to cut your hair, but I completely understand why you did it, and am sure you'll be growin' and flowin' again before ya know it.
Tom, it's good to have you back.
James and Austin, I hope you'll reconsider leaving the 'board. Your participation has been appreciated, and its absence will leave this community the poorer.
Above is my own update photo, taken two days ago (six months after shaving my head during a lapse of judgment, following the death of a close friend). I've vowed to not even so much as trim my hair before earning my licensure as a registered nurse in June 2010. My ultimate hair length goal is midback.

A very handsome update, Val.
I like the black beard/black hair combo.
Don't hesitate to share that fine beard at the Beard Community BB:
A flurry of great updates lately, indeed!
- Oren
Thank you very much, Oren, and thanks for the invitation to the Beard Community BB, too. I do prefer to keep facial hair most of the time, though my beard isn't nearly as grand as your own. I tend to keep my own beard trimmed to a relatively short length, usually between 1/2" and 3/4".

Hi Validus,
What a pleasure to hear from you, (thank you for mentioning my update), and it is great to know how things are going with you these days. Your hair is doing very well indeed in your new journey to long hair, and and also, my best of luck to you as you persue your new career.
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Thanks, David! I'm really enjoying the process of growing my hair this time around, and am more confident than ever that I will reach my goal. Compared to the pursuit of my new career, hair-growing is a breeze! Thank you for your well-wishes in that regard, as well.
Be well, friend!

Hi Val,
I concur with you on all the fabulous updates posted by our users as of late. Some very excellent progress which is always cool to see. It's unfortunate when we loose a longhair as you mentioned TLH but sometimes it just can't be avoided.Hopefully he will be back in the growing out process once he gets established at his new job.As for your own hair, its lookin' great and your goal is commendable:)Good luck with earning your license as I'm sure it will be a breeze for you my friend:)Thanks for all your participation on mlhh.Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the positive feedback, my friend. I'm looking forward to posting more updates, and plan on doing so every 2 or 3 months. As always, your enthusiasm for long hair, fitness, and TRUE rock/metal culture remain an inspiration to me. As a nurse and a longhair (two categories typically regarded as "womanly" in our culture), I hope I am able to inspire men one day, as well.
Take care,
--Val
Great Update and lots of kind words !!
You are looking good my friend...love the smile....
Your "return" is coming along quickly.
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Thank you, Walter. My hair does seem to grow fairly quickly. As eager as I am for it to truly be "long," though, I really am enjoying the journey this time around.
Great pictures of yourself and Justin, by the way! Looks like y'all had a great time. :)
Best regards,
--Val
Before you know it, you'll have long hair again. We all have judgment lapses here and there, nothing to worry about. Good luck attaining your education too.
MB
Thanks, Matt. I'm enjoying my hair at all stages as it grows out this time, but it sure will be nice to have it LONG again! Thanks for the well-wishes regarding my current schooling, too.

Hey Val
I know of a male nurse with hair down to his waist and there appears to be no problem about it with anyone in the hospital where he works nearby.
Your own hair is doing great and should be killer long hair. Best of luck to you as you continue letting it grow out.
Justin~
Hi Justin,
Thanks for the encouraging words regarding both long hair and the nursing field. So far, the hospitals and clinics I've been in seem to be quite tolerant of individuality amongst professionals, although I haven't yet met any truly long-haired men at them yet. I'm not worried about it, though, as nursing seems to remain a pretty "recession-proof" career field.
Take care,
--Val
Hi Validus,
Your hair will be great long. I'm sure you'll make a handsome longhaired man. I wish you the best with your studies.
Also, I have picked June, 2010 as my goal. It will be three years for me. I'll watch for you on the path to flowing locks. It's good to have shared goal.
Cheers!
Don
Thanks, Don, and congratulations on your fantastic recent update, as well. June 2010... we'll get there together, my friend!
--Val
looks great bro glad to see your growing your hair back and the black beard+black hair =greatness! :)
Thanks, Mark! This little community is filled with greatness of countless shapes, sizes, colors, textures, and most importantly, TRUE-HEARTED SPIRIT! I've enjoyed your posts and updates for a long time, and look forward to continued camraderie.
Take care,
--Val
Validus,
What a great treat to see your face again. The hair is looking all the better and you have a great game-plan for the future of your hair.
If my memory serves me correctly, you also cut your hair to become Shrek for a day. That was one heck of a showing of commitment and love for your children.
Peace
clayton
Thanks for the kind words, Clayton. Yep, I was the resident "Shrek-for-a-day," here at the MLHH, for Halloween 2007. This past year, my daughter's fancy gravitated towards Beauty and the Beast, so I didn't have to sacrifice any hair for that costume.

Halloween 2008.
Hey Val, great pic of you and you are well on your way again...super update! Interestingly, after the death of my best friend on 9/11/06 is when I really solidified my commitment to growing my hair out. It's partly a labor of love in his memory.
Hope you are having a great 2009 and thanks for sharing. Hope all is well with your family.
Cheers,
Max
Thank you, Max. Your inspiration and encouragement are tremendously appreciated. I'm sorry to learn of the loss of your friend... your commitment to honoring his memory is admirable.
I hope 2009 is off to a good start for you and yours, as well!
Take care, my friend.
--Val
so does that mean you are also letting the beard grow until then as well?
I'm not really as "attached" to the beard (pun intended) as I am to the cranial hair. I do prefer to wear a beard most of the time, but usually keep it trimmed to between 1/2" and 3/4".
--Val
Excellent beard and hair my friend!
~ Dave
Thank you, Dave... it's been a real pleasure to watch your progress over the past couple of years, as well!
Cheers!
--Val
Oh yeah, I have a 26th month update coming up later this month, and the photos will be from Maui, Hawaii.
Matthew aka Regardless
Your progress has been fantastic, Matthew, and I look forward to future updates.
Take care,
--Val
Hey Val,
My condolences on the death of your good friend, something like that is going to hit you hard. I wouldn't consider shock to be a lapse of judgement but I hope things have improved for you.
You certainly are looking quite fine, you have a really cool look going now with that great dark beard. Wish I could do that LOL. You seem to be one of those lucky guys who will look great with whatever hair length you have. Enjoy the trip!
Take care
Thanks for all of the kind words, Chris. I was very happy to see you return to the board of late, and look forward to both of us sharing updates as time goes on.
Be well, my friend...
--Val
Ah Ha! I wondered how you were coming along.
Sorry to hear about your loss last year and wish you success on your second grow around.
Kevin
Thanks for the encouragement, my fellow Wisconsinite! Thanks also for all that you do to keep this board running so smoothly. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
--Val
Hi Val,
You appear to be making good progress on your return journey back up the mountain to longhairdom. As you have already been along this path before it will be a lot easier for you this time around and you will be more committed as you realise now that long hair is a intrinsic part of who you are and not just a passing fancy. We all do silly things sometimes and I for one have gone from medium length down to a shaved head too a couple of times in the past so do know where you are coming from.
Duncan
Thanks, Duncan. What you say is true... I really am enjoying the whole process of growing my hair, this time around. Finally reaching the mountaintop will be awesome, but I'm sure that, once I'm there, I'll be able to see another mountain that needs climbing.
--Val
Hey Val!
So where'd your ears go? lol,
Looks great man I looking forward to the next update and good luck with getting registered. Just a hop and a skip from now.
Paul
Hey Paul,
Which ears are you referring to? The Shrek ears only lasted the night, but the others are still firmly attached to the sides of my big ol' mug. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement (and for taking the fight for longhaired freedom right to "the man's" front door!).
Take care,
--Val
Nice to see it growing again. Looking forward to seeing it long.
