Yeah, I've finally found some live ones!
Some of the students on MySpace think that I should start a petition but I don't really know how to write one.
I'm doing some on-line research for samples and such but I'd like to hear from those of you who have been involved in actually doing this before.
I know how I want to word it and how to promote it, that's the easy part, but the technical stuff like the order things should be in, do I need a title page or something, can the signatures be on any kind of paper, stuff like that.
Thanks for anything you can tell me,
Paul

This sounds like a great idea. I am also adding a link to the bottom of this message for an on-line petition that you could use. There are plenty of examples for models there. You can do a petition as a letter to an individual or group, a general complaint for action, etc. Also, once you decide the basics of what you want the petition to say, I will be happy to help you work on a draft of it for precise language so that it could't be used against your cause -- if you want. I would keep it simple and to the point, so if you are out collecting "live" signatures, the potential signer can read and understand what he/she is signing quickly.
I think this is a good thing you're doing, and good luck. Throw even a small pebble into a pond, and the ripples go all the way to the edge.

Hey Paul, congrats on starting the petition. You have some good backers already I can see. Let me know how things progress...anything I can do let me know.
Your F.I.R.

Hello,
I think that the pen and paper petition is more effective than the online ones, as you will gather real signatures.
I may be old fashioned, but I feel that the online method is somewhat lazy, and may not be recognized by authorities from whom you want changes.
Maybe a combination of on-line with the pen and paper petition may help more :)
Good luck

I'm not sure how you should word it but I think you could throw in a reference to the constitution and the important lessons that can be learned from it. Go get them Paul!
Also be sure to keep it local with a wide cross section of supporters. Out of town signatures may take away from the credibility of the document
