Sorry for a second post so soon after the first but I've thought of a few questions, either things that make me think or things i have trouble with..
Well..
1. My hair is quite damaged near the ends, split ends and over forms of damaged hair.. Ive been told many different things about this, that a trim wll actually take off the naturally tapered ends of my hair and make it prone more to splitting, that i should cut cut the slit ends off one by one (will take forever) or that i should just leave them and take care of my hair more thoroughly, the number of split ends will decrease... has anyone got any of their own thoughts on this?
2. My Partner is pressuring me to get my hair cut to shoulder length.. thats about 2 and a half years of growth gone.. She tells me it looks like im trying to "hide" myself behind my hair. Any ideas?
3. When i try to tie my hair back, the front of my hair doesnt work properly.. its long enough to reach just.. it seems to droop on the front of my head.. is this because ive got a middle parting, Ive tried to brush my hair back and take the parting out but this feels really strange, ive had the middle parting ever since my hair was long enough to go into a parting and it feels unnatural, and my hair resists any other style...
4. Spots behind ears.. Ok this is a weird one.. but i dont get alot of spots.. but i do get them on my lobes and behind my ears, and even on the back of my neck.. Im wondering if this has anything to do with my hair, as these areas are where my hair lies.. does anybody else have these problems?
5. Any difference between female and male hair? Im sure uve all thought bout this before.. Sometimes u see a male longhair near a female with similar style and length hair, but u can still tell which is female and which is male by just the hair.. Is female hair naturally stronger, does it grow faster, does it respond to treatment more resiliantly? I see females do things to their hair which make me cringe, but their hair seems to endure. Does anyone have any thoughts, scientific information and stuff on this?
6. Discrimination, Ok, this is quite a big one so I wont go far into it because you all know what i mean when i say discrimination.. But im studying in the business sector, And im worried that ill find it much harder to get a job due to my long hair.. Im lucky that im studying Marketing and Advertising which I would assume would be much more open to longhair employees due to it's creative nature..
Is it easy enough to overcome these barriers with a smart style, a smart suit, an impressive mind and a little bit of charm?
Anyway, just 6 out of the hundreds of questons in my mind, I hope i hear some interesting answers.
(Sorry if I used any slang or abbreviations which are hard to understand, I'm much more used to typing over msn)
I've read on this board that using the search and destroy method is the best way to go but obviously is time consuming. This might be something you might do while watching the tube especially if the programming is not that interesting.I've never had to do that as I don't appear to have problems with splits.
Yes!Its a terrible idea and her reasoning is bogus! If that were the case then every longhair could be accused of that.My opinion is to just smile and say "YEA, OK" and then just keep on growing:)Of course if that's what you want then that's different but I think you look ACE with that length.
I middle part my hair all the time and don't seem to have the problem you describe.Changing the way you style your hair will feel strange because its new and your hair isn't used to it being that way.Maybe your hair tie isn't snug enough and your hair is slipping through after awhile causing the problem.
Never heard of this one and I've had very long hair over 20 years.I don't think your hair has anything to do with this problem at all.
I always wondered about this myself but its possible female hair is structurally different than males. However most males have short hair so a longhair comparison is harder to determine as more female have it long than the guys.
Yea its a shame that us guys have to put up with people being uptight on our longhair while females always get a pass. What ever happened to NO sex discrimination?Hey, it goes both ways you know!I certainly hope your profession will be longhair friendly my friend:)
No problem with your questions as that is what we are here for.If you have any more don't hesitate to ask.I'm sure others will chime in and give their take on your questions as they may be different than mine.Anyway I think your hair is AWESOME:)CHEERS

Hey there!
I agree with everything Mark said, just wanted to add my opinion about the second question... Honestly, I have never understood girls (or anyone) who dislike long hair.
Are you trying to hide behind your hair? If not, I suggest you talk to her and explain the truth. Shoulder length hair can still hide your face, so it just sounds to me like an excuse to make you cut at least SOME hair. She should stop pressuring you if she really cares.
Personally, I think your hair looks beautiful and in great condition, there is no reason for you to cut or trim at all.
Keep it growing ;)

*Make sure you are using LOTS of conditioner. Cut ea. split individually just above the split. If the ends are no longer blunt enough a mere dusting should suffice. Nothing more.
*Do what YOU want with your hair.
*Sounds as if you hair is not long enough yet to settle in.
*Not myself. (Freckles?)
*Hair is hair. The women are always doing all kinds of things to theirs which the men for the most part would never get into.
*Every case is different. Depends on the employer and how his/her mind is dead-set about presentation of those employed at the particular business.
Hi Pattoe, I will speak to this piece, I'm sure others will tackle some of the other issues. I have many people in my life, mostly female, who feel the need to give me advice about my hair.
"cut it short it will make you look younger"
" trim it,it looks unhealthy"
"layer it, it will look better"
" wear it back more often, it looks neater" on and on and on
You know what? When it comes to MY hair. I turn everybody off and let it go in one ear and out the other. It's MY hair and I will do with it exactly as I please! So many people have so much to say when it comes to long haired men. I just smile and say thanks :)Then I do me! I am the boss of me....lmaooo
As fas as I know there's no difference. Females do a lot of things to their hair that men wouldn't, but they pay the price too. I know lots of women who've cut back their hair or only keep it at shoulder-length because of the damage caused by coloring, straightening, etc. At least in the US, I've noticed that my hair (around shoulder-blade length) is actually long for a woman now.
I got my hair advice from the guys on this board, too, so what works for men, works for women.

One by one. It will take a while, but it's common amongst people who hang out on hair boards.
Don't do it.
I tie mine back unparted and the parting still falls into place when it's loose. It's really hard to tie it back parted IME, although some people do.
Grease. Only really fixed by washing hair, although you can't wash long hair as often as short or it gets too dry. It's a balancing act.
No difference atall, except in balding or pregnant persons.
Paper qualifications help too. A lot.
No problem.
As far as the significant other is concerned, you should keep your hair how you want it. Letting someone pressure you into doing something you don't want to is NEVER a good idea, no matter what the reason are. Follow your own heart.
I don't have any idea if my hair is different than a males...But I think it's possible. As far as I know, there are a lot of vitamins in the female body that are helpful...and especially if a woman is taking birth control or prenatal vitamins, I think her hair would be more likely to be a bit stronger.
As for discrimination... I know I've dealt with it a lot because of my hair(which is blue in the front, dark red in the back, and black on the udnerside) and because I have a three facial piercings(lip and each of my nostrils)
When I had shaved my head several years ago, I also had discrimination bceause of being a bald female(or people thought I had cancer because I'm super white)
In both cases, it was harder for me to get a job when I was in those situations, but I've had great success with having "normal" hair to begin a job, and slowly breaking them into me doing strange thigns with it...Perhaps this method might work for you? As much as it would be painful to see the locks go...maybe keeping them short while getting a job, and then beginning to grow it out once you are secure?
