After I work out at my local gym, I like to sit in the Jacuzzi. However, it is rather generously chorinated, and I'm concerned that my hair is going to bleach out, crumble, fall out, mutate, or whatever. Does anyone on the board know much about the effects of chlorine on hair?
Thanks,

Chlorine has always dried out my hair BIG TIME! I think as long as you condition afterwards you should be OK.
Actually, you need to condition BEFORE you expose your hair to chlorine. Chlorine binds with the molecules in your hair and breaks down it's internal structure. Having conditioner in your hair helps to provide a barrier to this damage. I don't know, but there may actually be products made specifically for this purpose.
I regularly swim (3-4x/wk). Before going into the pool, I put a coat of conditioner into my hair. Afterwards I use a "clarifying" shampoo to get it all out (chlorine and old conditioner), then after rinsing, use a light conditioner and rinse one more time.
It seems to work for me. My hair is at "over the shoulder" length and hangs well.
Keep it growin'
Fear chlorine, especially if you are going for long-term length.
I have a few thoughts on it on my website as I was a competitive swimmer for a good portion of my life.
If you are only in the water once in a while and you use products to counter it then you will do ok.
Chlorine loves to eat hair given the chance.
