Aloha everyone. I am finally back from Maui, and these are my pictures of my 26th month update on my hair growth (and just about one year after the unwanted trim I got for my cousin's wedding).
My hair at 26 months, and in front of the tropical plants
My hair on the side (notice the waves)
My hair in a bun
And in a ponytail
My hair overlooking the beach
Me facing the sunset (then the clouds got in the way as the sun was setting)
I have noticed that the hair underneath is darker than the hair on the outer layers (the tropical sun have probably started to bleach my hair)
By the way, this is my latest crush, Kaydee, and she is pretty young; she is going to be 18 this May.
Maholo
Some pictures of Maui that I took:
Keihi beach (right down from where I stayed)
Autographed plant (on this kind of plant, people write stuff on the leaves when small, and as the leaves grow, the writing grows with the leaves).
Town of Pa'ia (not far from Kahului)
Rainforest on the road to Hana (we did not go all the way)
A fish pond at the open air market in Keihi
An old fort in Lahaina
Some more pictures in Maui I took
Kane at the luau
Wahine on stage at the luau
Me and one of the luau wahine
A bode ride to Lana'i and the snorkle spot (I don't swim, therefore, I don't snorkle; I just came along for the boat ride)
I'ao Needle
Sunset on Keihi beach (the best one of all of them, I can even see a little bit of the green flash)
(n/t)
What I did in Maui (day by day)
Wed, Feb 11 -- We did not do much, just flew in and settled in.
Thu, Feb 12 -- We hung around in Keihi, going out for lunch at 'Da Kitchen' where mainly the locals go.
Fri, Feb 13 -- In the afternoon, we went on the road to Hana part way. we did not intend to go all the way to Hana. On our way, we stopped at the shaved ice stand which served crushed ice instead (which was not that good). I got a little motion sick due to all the curves and switchbacks on that highway. We wanted to go see that waterfall, but a dead animal was purposed placed in the entranceway so we just turned around and came back.
Sat, Feb 14 (Valentine's day) -- We went to a couple of markets during the day. In the afternoon, we went to Lahaina to see Warren and Annabelle's magic show (I did not take pictures of that, since I did not know if they allow photography, but they did). First, we went into a lounge with a computer-controlled piano, which kept us entertained. We had our dinner in the lounge (which was shrimp, crab, salad, chicken, pineapple, drinks and dessert). Then we went into the theater room where Warren showed us some magic tricks (like making a bowling ball come out of an empty hat). I tried shaved ice at one of the markets, and it was close but not quite.
Sun, Feb 15 -- We went to the same markets and then out for lunch at Buzz Warth. Then later, we went to the luau in Lahaina under the stars, which was quite a show, and we had a Hawaiian buffet. Strangely enough, it was warm when it was not windy, but when the wind blew, it felt cold, and it was quite windy at the luau.
Mon, Feb 16 -- On this day, we went back to Lahaina early in the morning, for the snorkel trip. I only came along for the boat ride since I do not swim. The boat ride was bouncy and I got a bit motion sick. We also watched a few whales come out of the water.
Tue, Feb 17 -- The only big thing we did was we went up to I'ao Valley. I saw the I'ao Needle, the garden and a relatively small waterfall. We only stayed there for about an hour. On our way back, we went back to the market (the better one), and that place sold real shaved ice.
Wed, Feb 18 -- We simply flew back home.
great update Matt! your hair is getting so long love the curls and waves it's looking fantastic! and the Hawaiian pictures look beautiful, glad you had fun :)
Thanks Mark. Your hair looks cool too. You should come to Seattle sometimes.
Matthew
Fantastic hair, Matt. You are hands down one of the best looking guys on this board IMHO. And how fortunate that you were able to have such a wonderful vacation in such a beautiful place as Hawaii! I've still never gotten over there though I've wanted to go for years. At this point, the closest I'll probably ever get is listening to my Keola Beamer CDs.
Thanks Stormy. I believe you will have a chance at visiting Hawaii at some point in the future.
Matthew
Matt, your hair looks great. The waves are just perfect.
I'm wondering how you did that bun. It's my favorite out of all the pictures. My hair is nearly down to my chest and I still can't manage to do one. Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers,
Peter
Thanks Peter. To do a bun, first, start making a ponytail. After pulling your hair enough times to tighten your hair through the ponytail holder, when you pull your hair through the ponytail holder for the last time, stop part way and you have a bun.
Matthew
Matt,
What a wonderful update! Your wavy hair is looking better than ever.
It looks like you had a grand time. Great photography.
I like watching "green flashes" on sunsets, too.
Thanks for sharing,
- Oren
Thanks Oren. Most of the sunsets I saw in Maui were blocked by clouds at the last minute, except for the one on the last night, when I can see the sunset all the way through. At the Hawaiian latitude, the sun sets straight down, while in Seattle, it sets at an angle.
Matthew
Wow Matthew! Your hair's looking fantastic, it looks full and healthy, congrats! Yep, you're definately a longhair now! Also, looks like you had quite a great trip, can't wait 'til I get to travel (I have a Field Study course this summer, yay!). Well, keep well, and don't get to cranky now about the weather here on the mainland! I hope my hair comes out as well as yours has!
Approaching month 25,
-Christian Epp
Thanks CEE. You are not the only one who said I am an official long hair. MarkS also said the same thing. This summer, where are you going to travel to? Even back in Seattle, the stars are still out at night, although it is colder. Speaking of stars, I get to see some of the stars in the south in Hawaii that are permanently below the horizon in Seattle. Hope your hair comes out really well.
Matthew
Hey, I get to road trip accross Alberta, in Canada. It's for geology.
The hair's looking great! In another couple years you'll be the envy of the board!
Hawaii is on my list of "places to go before I die." My sister and brother-in-law went to Oahu on their honeymoon and loved it - until my sister got sick from something that didn't agree with her.
Thanks Bill. I can't wait for my hair to reach my desired length. By the way, I have already been to Oahu three times, and this is my first time to Maui. How did your sister get sick by the way?
Matthew
That was back in 1981, so I've kinda forgotten the details. I think it was a mild case of food poisoning from improperly cooked seafood - but don't quote me on it.
Hey Matt,
Like... Im tottally jealous you were out there in beautiful Maui. Its cold and depressing here in New York
Your hair's looking great man, gettin that Robert Plant look
Like.... whats Mahola mean? Cheers? Later?
Steve
Thanks Glinka. Yes, it is also cold in Seattle, but have you been to Hawaii yet? It was like 80 degrees and mostly sunny during the day. By the way, 'Maholo' is a Hawaiian way of saying Thank You.
Matthew
Your hair is fantastic, I like how it looks to be one even length the whole way around, plus, I like those waves it has.
Thanks George. Actually, my hair is a bit lower in the back compared to the sides, as long as each side of my head is a mirror of one another.
Regardless
It looks amazing! I love how curly it is, and such a pretty color too! It's absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks Toni. Not only that, the strong Hawaiian sun had bleached my hair a bit, so it is lighter on the top and darker underneath.
Matthew
I saw! I think the depth makes it look all the better though.
Hi Matthew,
Thanks for sharing these great photos. Obviously you've spent a great time during your travel.
Bye
Vivien
Hi Vivien. I was only there for a week.v I has a good time by the way.
Matthew
cool looking hair man the colour and waves are awesome i like it
Thanks Azea. The sun in Hawaii made my hair a bit lighter on the top.
Matthew
Hi Matthew,
Cool pics from your vacation and congratulations on your 26 month milestone.Has to feel great to make it past the two year point as now you are on your way to some very long hair:)Sounds like you had a great time on the islands as I'm sure the scenery was beautiful.Maybe someday I'll make it there.Anyway thanks for the update my friend and keep that mane growing!Cheers
Mark
Thanks Mark. By the way, it had also been one year today after the day of the unwanted trim. Have you not been to Hawaii yet? I cannot wait to have my mid-back hair.
Matthew
Hi Matt,
Thank you for sharing your update with us, and your hair looks great in these photos, and is certainly growing! I cannot get over how thick it is. Also, this is such a beautiful part of the world, and I am glad that you had a good vacation. It certainly looks as though you had a fabulous time!
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks David. I had a good time. The weather was sunny for the most part. I may assume that I have some of the thickest hair of all of us.
Matthew
What a cool update from an exotic place! Your hair is looking great, too. It's so thick, and the waves are outstanding!
Thanks for bringing this Minnesotan a taste of summery weather,
Mouse
Thanks Mouse. I may have some of the thickest hair on the board. Have you been to Hawaii yet?
Matthew
Hi Matt, fantastic update, lovely pictures of Hawaii, I would love to go there.
Your hair is looking really superb, and the tail is perfect.
Take care buddy, and thanks for a great posting,
~ Dave
Thanks Dave. Have you ever been to Hawaii?
Matthew
Fantastic pictures Matthew! Someday I'll get there.
Your hair is looking marvelous, thick and wavy!
Keep on growin'!!!!
Bruce
Thanks Bruce. Have you been to Hawaii before? By the way, today is exactly one year ago from the day my dad trimmed my hair for my cousin's wedding.
Matthew
You lucky bastard, Ive always wanted to go to Hawaii. Im gonna have to agree with a lot of the other people here and say that you look so much better now than back when you were in high school (now youre an official long hair!)
Btw you should ask that girl out if you havent already, you guys would make a good couple.
Thanks anyway Dio. I agree with most people that I look better than when I was a short hair. I was a short hair in high school. As for that girl, she is currently 17, and will be 18 in May. When she turns 18, I will try to ask her out. Two other people also refer to me as an official long hair. You should tell your parents/whoever you live with that you want to go to Hawaii.
Matthew
Trust me, we all want to go to Hawaii but we cant really afford to do this right now. Money's an issue.
Hair is looking good. Starting to get some real length to it. Keep it growing.
Thanks Garth. In fact, some people say that I am now an official long hair.
Matthew
Hi Matthew,
Thanks for sharing with the rest of us some of the highlights of your great getaway holiday on Maui. I liked your photos of the natural scenery very much.
And your hair is getting better and better as it grows longer. Keep up the good work!
Is Maui part of Hawaii?
Best,
Duncan
Thanks Roy. Yes, Maui is part of Hawaii.
Matthew
Your hair looks awesome and looks like you had a great time on hawai. Hope I ever get the chance to go there.
Thanks Vincent. Yes, I had a nice time, and I liked the warm weather there (it is a bit chilly in Seattle by contrast yet almost as sunny lately). Have you not been to Hawaii yet?
Matthew
I would love to go there, but I can't afford to go there.
I'm currently saving money to travel when I finisched my study but I don't know where I'm going yet.
Well keep saving and it's a great place to visit and I went to Maui a few years ago. We know how the Dutch love to travel and a very high percentage of the population have passwords.
Cheers,
John.B
Hi John. What did you do while in Maui?
Things I did:
-- Went partway down Hana highway
-- Saw Warren & Annabelle's magic show
-- Went to a luau
-- Went on a boat ride (it was a snorkel trip, but I do not swim; I just came along for the boat ride)
-- Visited I'ao Valley
-- The rest of the things were self-explanatory (beaches, pools, sunsets, etc.)
Matthew
Hi Vincent,
I just read in the Friday edition of USA Today that tourism in Hawaii is way down due to the financial meltdown.May people are holding back on expensive trips, such as Hawaii, but if you can afford it the prices have dropped a lot trying to encourage travel there.I have never been there myself but hope to someday myself.
Mark
Wow Matthew
Absolutely fabulous long hair that you should be ever so proud of. Add to that a great trip and now Kaydee. Who could wish for anything more wonderful. I am so happy for you! :-)
Take care-
Justin~
Thanks Justin. As for Kaydee, she is still a little too young to be my girlfriend, at least for the next three months, but on the other hand, after not seeing her for three years, she still kept my interest in me. Yes, the Hawaiian trip was fun.
Matthew
Your hair looks fantastic, Matthew. Despite that trim for your cousin's wedding, all looks great. Hopefully from now on, you will be able to grow it to whatever length you desire.
Scott
Thanks Scott. I want to go out to mid-back, and I actually notice that my hair is curlier with my increased length. The trim I talked about was one year and one day ago.
This is what I looked like just one week and a half after that trim and one week after my cousin's wedding. Notice the difference.
Matthew
