Hi everyone,
This is what I looked like before I grew my hair and also a shot from this evening, I personally think that long hair improves a mans appearance and will never go near the Dark Side again!!
So come on, lets see your before and afters!!!
~ Dave
Dave,
Wow man-I think that your short hair picture is a good one, but the long haired one is just fantastic. The colour is just perfect for you. How long have you been growing it and how long do you think your hair is? Is it usually loose or do you often pull it back?
It is always a great time to see your progress pictures!!
VJ
Thanks VJ, I have been growing for 3 years from a shaved head, I'm not sure how long it is but on average ones hair grows 6" a year so I guess 18". Wow, that sounds long.LOL.
I nearly always wear it loose as in the picture, but some days when its bad or when doing mucky jobs I tie it back.
Cheers, Dave
Stormy, thats a cool transformation.
I've checked a few times this evening and those pictures aren't showing up... would love to see the transformation!
Hmmm, it's still not showing up. Maybe the place you have the pictures hosted at doesn't allow hot linking. I just started using Photobucket.com and so far so good.
Wow Dave, the long hair totally transforms your personality! The short hair looked OK, but the same style as so many other guys. With long hair, you look like a really cool individual! And, I believe you stated somewhere that you are 43? If so, I'd never have guessed. Maybe 33. Maybe less. And I mean that as a compliment. The long hair gives you a more youthful appearance.
People usually guess my age wrong too. They often think I'm 25 to 27. Maybe 30. I'm actually going to be 36 in a few weeks. Here's some before and after pics of me. I like the longer hair better, but I like my body weight from a few years ago even more! If only I could have both...
Thanks Peter, you look younger with it long too, great isn't it? Superb update by the way, your man is looking amazing. No perm required there buddy!
~ Dave
Hi Dave, Thanks. The longer hair seems to give guys like us a younger appearance and more personality. The 2009 picture of me shows my hair after I used the rollers on wet hair overnight. But even without them, my hair is still a bit wavy if I let it air dry. The perm would have given tighter curls, but everyone on this board convinced me that the chemical damage wasn't worth it.
Keep it growing!
- Peter
Hi Dave,
What a cool thread, and what a transformation from the "shorthaired you" to the longhaired one!
Here is a short haired photo of me in the lab a number of years ago.
Here is a recent photo, taken just over a month ago.
Hopefully, more guys will share some of their "before and after" photos!
David
Thats amazing David, I think its nice to remind ourselves how far we have come sometimes, and may I say everyone for the better.
~ Dave
Dave, what a great transformation and inspiration.
Here's me after 22 mos of patiently growing my curly hair. I was shaved B4 as you can see. Hummm....seem to have put on a few pounds/kilos too!
Well, here's me at 16.5 or so.
And then I started growing . . .
It got longer . . .
And here's this past fall, last time I took pics. Close to 19.
And now we head into the Undiscovered Country!
I think I look just a bit older with the long hair, although that could be the age difference between the photos too.
Yeah, that's weird, how many years apart are those photos? In any case, the long hair (and clothing) definitely gives you a much different personality. Long hair tends to give a guy a more youthful appearance, even when you look back at photos that may be several years old.
It's about 4.5 years between the photos. The short haired one is from my senior year of high school and I'm now a senior in college.
Yeah, 4.5 years and the beard, when you're in your early 20s can definitely make a difference! I grew a goatee when I was 19 so I could look older.
I think you look much better with the long hair. The beard suits you really well too. Your hair has a really cool texture to it as well. It's always really neat to see what a huge change the hair makes to a person.
Hey Davieeeeee,
That's such a great contrast of you before and after longhairdom.I have to say even with short hair you have a great looking face but the hair is definately the cherry on top:)You have certainly seen the light my friend. As for me, I'd have to dig up some old high school photos to be able to provide a short hair pic of me and of course you all know what I look like today!YIKES.LOL.Anyway being those old school pics are not digital it would take some effort to get them up here and I really hate to remember the bad old days.Great thread Dave:)Cheers
Mark
Some cool transformations here.
I've lurked off and on over the past few years, and may have posted a shot a few years ago. Now seems as good a time as any to toss another post into the mix, yeah?
I've been growing my current crop of hair from a shaved head since the beginning of August, 2007, and my aftershot is from the beginning of this month. nuttidave, man, you've had a real influence on my perseverance in holding back from any cuts, trims, etc.
Oh, and Vincent, if you were the one asking if any vegetarians post here: I went vegan a bit after I started growing this hair, and the only changes I've noticed have been for the better. Some things I do that may help are keeping myself hydrated, plenty of physical activity, and eating enough fruits and greens to put some monkeys to shame. You'll be fine!
Yes that was me, right now I'm eating 60% vegetarian.
My parent are oke with the change but my sister still want to eat meat. So some days we eat vegetarian and some days with meat.
Hope to make the full change soon.
I'm already excersising and eating fruit so that should be oke.
Thanks for sharing your experience with it.
Nice change you've made with the longhair :)
That's cool. I remember a few years ago this came up on the board too. Seems there were a few other veggies. I've been vegetarian for about 8 years, actually strict vegetarian for most of that (close to vegan, but not quite).
Im not sure I agree with you eating vegetarians, but if it helps with your hair then carry on! I might take it up myself.
Brings a whole new meaning to a vegetarian diet.
Haha. :-)
On a more serious note, Im not sure how much diet affects healthiness of hair... I'm a student and eat junk food when I do eat. Mostly I dont eat so Im sure I have plenty of malnutrition but my hair seems to be as healthy as it has ever been.

Thanks for joining in the thread.

Dave
That is a big difference. How long have you been growing out your hair? Like you, I believe long hair also improves my appearance.

Hey Dave, here is my before and after. 1987 2007
Your hair looks so much better now that it is long. Keep growing it for sure.
Scott
Hi Dave,
I remember that first photo of you when joined. What a difference between then and now!
Here are some "before" pics of me through the years:
1966, 1982, 1991,
1993, 2003 and 2004
- Oren
Hi Oren, that's a pretty cool series of snapshots in time. Mullets and mustaches may come and go out of style, but long hair and full beards never will. You looked good with the mullet too, but the full long hair is even better. Even before reading the actual dates, I was pretty close in guessing them. Sometimes clothes and hairstyles can be a giveaway, and sometimes not.

~Top July 2002~ ~Bottom left July 2006~ ~Bottom right July 2008~
The "then" makes you look older. Longhair takes years off unless they gray is coming in then it puts them on. LOL.
The AC DC shirt is a nice accessory to the hair.
Cheers
Kevin
OK Dave, Here's mine. This the first photo of me fat and mulleted at 50 years old.
OK, What a difference 5 years makes. A picture from last fall just before my 56th birthday.
peace, jonalbear
Wow it certainly does :-)
Hey Dave
This is about the best I can do............and I even coloured it in. (Paint by Number you know.) LOL :-)
Take care-
Justin~
Grease lightning!
Wow, that's quite a neat series of pictures! Thanks for reposting them - it was definitely worth it. You've experiemented with several different hairstyles over the years. Your current style is my favorite. The pic from 1981 was interesting! But I like the current long hair style you have better.
Thanks for the kind words, Peter. You can see that I've tried my hair long before and the 1981 pic shows that I really didn't know how to take care of it or even wear it. Of course, I had no support system back then either. I'm pleased with the way it looks now too.
, thankyou all for participating!!! :-)
Damn, I almost missed this.
This is me in the army in 83 or so, and me a couple years ago from a similar angle.
Paul
Hi Paul,
Wow,you look like a mean hombre in that military pic!LOL.That's one of my favorite aspects of being a longhair
as it actually makes the person seem more friendly and approachable. At least it does to me.I do like the after pic so much better:)Cheers buddy
Mark
Awesome difference everybody, here's mine hope people still read this as the thread is already down a lot.
A lot better :)
Yes,Yes I'd say a whole lot better my friend.What a difference!Cheers
Mark
Wow,Vincent that is really amazing, what a change!!
~ Dave
Whoa. You look like a completely different person with the long hair. Much more interesting and won't just blend in with the crowd.
Here are some of my pictures:
The upper row: in 1981 I was regrowing my hair after having been called in for military service, then sent back home right away because I was too heavy (but not before cutting my hair...); in 2000 I had much longer hair and I had lost a lot of weight during the 1990s.
The lower row: two recent pictures (2008). Last time I had to cut my hair was more than 20 years ago, when I was called again for military service only to be rejected.
