Do you guys think hats and hair wraps,
skull caps etc (as I'm wearing below) effect thikness of hair on top of your head? Mine seems to getting a little thin but only on top.
I believe genetics play the biggest role in hair thickness and health, closely followed by lifestyle (balanced nutrition, exercise, etc.). If hats do affect hair growth, I think their impact is minimal.

Any excessive, shearing force can cause damage to the body (including the scalp). If you're going to wear something on your head, make sure it leaves room for good blood flow.

Great point Val. I think the tight head wraps and such that restrict blood flow might be more of a problem then looser fitting hats

I have worn hats, headbands, ponytails and braids every time I have ever grown my hair long. Aside from it being terminal (or at least growing waaaayy slow) I have never noticed any thinning or receding hairline. I continue to wear in a pony 90% of the time. I'll try and get a new pic up tonight.
Hi Todd,
I've been using baseball caps for years to retrain my hair while at work or doing other jobs that having it loose could cause problems. In all that time I've never noticed any thinning on top at all.In fact I feel hats have protected my hair from excessive tangles and effects of the sun.I also agree genetics are the biggest factors in hair lose or thinning followed by diet and lifestyle.Hope this puts your mind at ease my friend.

Not at all.
Do you guys think hats and hair wraps,
My hair is already thin on top and I live in the desert, therefore hats (etc) are essential to prevent sunburn. I do not think my hat-wearing has caused any further thinning, as a matter of fact I feel it protects my hair in harsh environments. I do need to wear a hard hat often and protect my hair by wearing a bandanna and/or ball cap under it.
Good question...Thanks
WWT
White Tail I have always loved your cool hat!

Personally I don't wear hats much. They look good on some people.
The popular baseball cap is one hat type that I really hate. A lot of people down here wear it with the bib rolled down on each side, ugh. However it does look much better on a longhair than a shorthair.
I sorta like the boggin-head look, you know, longhair hanging out from underneath a boggin. My son likes that style.
When I was in school I had a floppy leather hat that I liked.
In my opinion, any style hat looks better on one with longhair than one without. Even a cowboy hat.

I wouldn't mind wearing hats but I haven't been able to find any to fit very well with my hair being long now.
Any ideas on where I can go?

Cowboy hats , bandannas, skull caps, hair wraps all look and fit great. Woman traditionally have always had long hair and wore hats
A hat should cause no problems at all. Hair loss is almost always genetic in nature and can usually be controlled with an antiandrogen such as Propecia, or, Avodart. Personally, I prefer Avodart. I wear a hat nearly every day to keep my hair under control. Usually, I wear a cap with my hair pulled through the hole in the back. Long hair and a cowboy hat usually gets lots of attention.
