How's it going folks? I'm a freshman at the university of richmond and have posted every once in a while though been lurking lately. Anyways out of all the students here there were only five longhairs. AND THEY ALL CUT THEIR HAIR WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER! It almost seems like a conspiracy. So long story short i'm the last longhair on campus. Gotta represent! lol I crack myself up
Represent man! I had the same deal in highschool, there were TWO including myself and that's out of 1300 students. Now all you have to do is double your hair length to compensate for those who gave in ;)

No, he has to grow it to be five times as long!
There were lots of long haired guys in college with me, but that was in the late seventies.
Lol thanks phil. Your logic's flawless guess im jst gonna have to get sexier
Times seem to be changing for we longhaires. If the last right now, when the others start growing their hair longer you will be the first!
I know how that is. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only long haired person on my campus, although I do occasionally see other long hairs.

Wow! Just wow! I live near a Catholic university, and not only are there longhairs spotted in town from there, but an order of ponytailed Franciscans haas been sending their seminary students to the attached seminary there. It's kind've cool seeing the Franciscans in robes with the ponytails dangling down their backs. They are the only seminary students with long hair.
Just think, when long hair is in fashion, you'll be ahead of the rest. :)
I'm curious as to who the Franciscans are. I'm used to seeing Franciscans with short hair or tonsured hair.

They are a community associated with the Order of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, which has no rules prohibiting long hair. One of the founding members, Fr Stan Fortuna, is a well-known friar who is a musician. Though he usually sports a ponytail, ocassionally Fr Stan lets it loose. As can be seen in the concert pic I linked to below.
The tonsure, as a requirement, was eliminated by Vatican II. But some primitive orders still follow that practice. Typically, short hair is what is commonly seen. Franciscan Friars of the Renewal has been growing as an order, probably it's most well-know for Father Benedict Groeschel, who was on of the 7 founders, along with Fr Fortune mentioned above.
They began sending seminary students here several years ago, as this is the oldest, and one of the best, Catholic seminaries in the country. At least 2 young friars with ponytails have been seen on campus, and in town. Father Groeschel has been to both the college, seminary, and the associated Shrine Grotto of Lourdes, on several ocassions. The friars assist the seminarians with a yearly east coast youth conferance, held on campus in late Spring. I believe Fr Fortuna has provided music ministry for that as well.
I think we will see more religious men with longhair. At least among the Franciscans, who have always been countercultural, and radical, in their views in comparison to mainstrean society. Ironically, many longhairs carry the values that make for a good Franciscan; tolerant, peace-loving, concern for others, animals and the environment, simple lifestyle, unattached to things, self-confidence leading to self-actualization.
Fr Stan Fortuna
Interesting story. For the guys who cut their hairs, there should be a connection between all of them (maybe they all hang out together). As for you, I would like you to keep your hair long. Then you will be the man with the longest hair on the campus! Maybe they can have a longhair contest to see what guy has the longest hair, and you will probably win.

i'm the last longhair on campus. Gotta represent!

That would be cool with me. Proves you are the real deal and the others were just posers :)

This year, unlike previous recent years, not one longhaired man is among those in the Top Twelve (well, this year it's the Top Thirteen). I also don't recall seeing a single longhair making it into the recent rounds before this latest one that whittled it down to thirteen. What's with that! The odds of this happening are quite low unless there has been a major decline in the percentage of longhairs in that age group.
