G'day all!
I've been a longish-time reader of this board, since about last July or so. Now I've reached a personal milestone, I thought I'd finally show myself, say hi, and so on.
So anyway, to explain a bit. I've been growing my hair out from next-to-nothing since about June '07 (which'd be 21 months? blimey), and last weekend I finally realised I can do a ponytail. It's something I've been waiting for ages to do (read: do well), and I'm quite pleased I stuck with the growing, and from that point I considered myself as having long hair. Granted, quite a few hairs at the front fail to stay in, and so after a few hours it looks quite messy, but the ponytail's just so danged handy! (As I'm sure a lot of you are aware!) The lack of length at the front is due to a haircut I went to get about a year into growing: I thought my hair needed a trim, foolish ignorance :), the hairdresser hacked several inches off my fringe; Not too happy when it discovered what had happened...
Since then, I've been too scared to visit hairdressers, and it's coming up to a year since I saw one last. Current plans are to not see them again for a long time yet!
I've included a pic of my back, as it looks far more impressive than any other angle of my hair
So that's my story in a nutshell. I shall leave with one question, though: If you can remember, when did you realise you didn't just have 'hair longer than others', and thought of yourself as having long hair?
Hi Jowii. Your hair is at a nice length, and I am glad you are staying away from any hair people. By the way, are you from Australia? I see the flags.
Matthew
Hey all, thanks for the compliments!
The flags are part of my ever-growing collection. I aim to own a flag from every country I've lived in. So in the pic are my mementos from Australia and New Zealand, and my camera sat on my St George's cross. So to answer the question, 'sorta'. I'm English originally, but Australia has been one of my homes.
Welcome and glad you have found us.
Your long hair looks absolutely superb and I am so glad that you will be staying away from the Salons. I do not know what their problems seem to be, but it is always well if at all possible not to darken their doorsteps. (Just too many horror stories.) "Most" long hair things can be done by yourself rather than a trim-happy butcher who has selective hearing and doesn't know how to measure.
For myself, guess it was at least by the age of 12.
All the best-
Justin~
Certainly looks healthy! :-)
I was driving my car one day and tilted my head down and my hair stopped it because it was between my back and the seat. That's how I knew. :-)

Cool hair man.
I thought of myself as having hair longer than others when it got over my ears. I thought of myself as having longhair when I had to start pulling it out of my collar.
Now I just laugh and goof on short hair guys. (especially friends and co-workers).

Good to have you join us! I know I myself lurked for a while just 'cause I was a short hair and didn't feel I exactly fit. Foolish me, glad you broke the ice! As for me, I think the first time every single hair made it into my ponytail was the "defining moment". Either that or hearing that I was remembered by a classmate (I'm a freshman) for my "awesome hair"! :) Made me smile, anyways.
Welcome yet again,
-Christian Epp
Hi Jowii,
Welcome to the hyperboard, and I am glad that you have deiced to share your update photo with us. You have outstanding hair in excellent condition with lots of shine, and it should be a breeze to grow it a lot longer. Be sure to keep it growing!
