Here's an introduction of me:
I used to be so worried about what people thought.. with my long hair, my metal shirts, always exasperated on how people would associate with this.
But I'm 19 now and somehow I must admit that my long hair has created this extreme confidence.
By breaking the social barrier where you jump away from mainstream thought (the world of short hair and trendy clothing) you seem to engage your free will. I think long hair teaches you the ideas of society and also about being yourself. It breaks the shell of thinking everything must be the same by flipping the gender roles.
Nowadays, I'll wear any shirt I like no matter how extreme it's considered, I'll wear my hair (which is lower back) in all of these viking-esque styles, who cares..?
What does it matter what the other robots think? We're above them! We weren't born on the world to serve as slaves we were born to rule! Why waste your life conforming??
Anyways! Enough banter. What I am trying to get to is all these people worried about their long hair.. It's a perception. You must think positively and get over this barrier, if you think people will treat you negatively about your hair they WILL. But if you stand confident and think positively, than they will treat you with RESPECT no matter how you look!
Having long hair is courageous and it spells truth.

First off, to say I'm very glad you managed to grow such a long hair. You have reason to be proud both of your looks and the guts to be what you are.
I share everything you said about the symbolics of having long hair, however what I learned in life is that progressive ideas are seldom ever totally welcomed by a society. Behaving confident gives you an important deal of satisfaction but, more often than not, we only believe that people around us are glad about our success, more so if the success is of a public nature (I count long hair here too, because it is noticed by everyone who sees you). The truth is people are often silent about how they wish you never succeeded. I felt this public spite on my skin not only because of my long hair but for many other achievements.
I was tricked (!) into thinking that I had to cut the ends of my once over shoulder-length hair because they were dry and split. The people actually don't care as much for your long hair's beauty, as they want you to cut it all, or at least wear it as short as possible.
The point is I was never really warmly accepted as a longhair, and, as I am nowadays growing it long once again, I don't think I will be this time either. The only thing I'm left with is not to give a twopence for what the others say. It pretty much depends on you and you only whether you will carry out your goal; it is a 'you vs. all' fight, unfair but obligatory.
I am therefore very glad that you succeeded to grow your hair that long, and even gladder that you created such a positive life philosophy. I am about three years older than you and I still haven't managed to establish my views so firmly. You taught me something with your thread.
Cheers,
Nikola
I decided to post a pic of the back of my hair, since I prefer to stay anonymous ;)
Anyways, I think in all societies progressive ideas are frowned upon by the mainstream.
But this means nothing atleast in a long sense (It's only short term). Look at the French Revolution, the literates had VERY long hair and wrote about the most liberal and provocative subjects ever, ideas still treasured to this day.
If these people are deceptive about your hair then they aren't worth being around. I've found my hair has been a way of natural selection, you can tell who has honour by the way they treat your hair.
This you vs society is a battle we must fight to our death I'm afraid but for us free thinking individuals It's something we can approach with humility and laughter.
It's all confidence. Once I broke my shyness about everything (not just long hair) I found that few things bother you.
.
Is that an Inquisition shirt :P?
No, Sargeist :D
Though I must say, I'm proud to be friends with Dagon ;)
Aye,the Sons of Northern Darkness!
Anyway your hair looks incredibly awesome dude!
Awesome points, awesome shirt, awesome hair.
I definatly agree that long hair = confidence. It's part of who we are and how we choose to define and present ourselves.
Excellent first post man, and welcome.

I couldn't agree with you more. It especially helps to speak clearly and intelligently. People might be surprised that lwe aren't as stupid as Dethklok makes us seem.
Live for yourself, there is no one more worth living for. I remember that Rush lyric from the song the Anthem every time I feel down because of negative comments towards my hair, because it always brings me back up.
I'm going to do what I want because I am a free man and am a slave to nobody.
I agree with you 100%. People are very perceptive to body language, the way you carry yourself. If you act confident and have a "world this me, take it or leave it" attitude people seem to have tons more respect for you.
Long hair on men has become, in the years following the Vietnam war, associated with biker gangs, criminals and drug addicts and are still portrayed as the bad guys on TV.
Most longhairs on this board are smart and educated and hardworking. During the language poll I was the only monolingual here.
My personal theory is that most guys are shaving their heads is because hair strands can be tested for drugs. Urine test can only go back 30 days compared to a month per half inch with hair.
Just a theory.
We certainly are but there is still alot of paranoia over there!
I watching some documentary on Television the other day and there is a trend amongst professional criminals to shave all the hair from their bodies including heads. So they don't leave as much evidence behind in shed hair. The tables have turned - todays bikies and plastic hiphop gangstas generally have shaved/buzzed hair cuts and certainly here in Australia long hair can no longer be associated with criminals as the vast majority of crooks no longer have long hair.
