I thought it would be fun for mlhh'ers to list some of the reasons they like and love their long hair. For me, as I'm only into my 18th month, I have a way to go. For now, I'm really enjoying the feel of my hair on my neck and shoulders and how it covers my ears.
So - what are some of the favorite things you like about your long hair?
Looking forward to people's thoughts,
johnnie
When my wife or one of my lady friends decides to play with my hair :D
Oh yes, most enjoyable.
Daniel
One thing I like is I'm not stuck in any one hair style.
Yesturday I had a ponytail. Today I have a briad. Tomorrow? Who knows I might decide on two ponytails in Willie Nelson style or just leave it all loose. There are just so many options with long hair you can truely fix it for the occation, or just by how you feel on any paticular day.

How it makes me feel special...
=)
I really adore long hair. I've been growing mine for 9 months, it's looking quite awkward and many times I feel ashamed of it...
I'm not sure I'm gonna make it...it's really a struggle to keep my hair looking normal. The only thing I like about it is that I just love the feeling of having long-ish hair, although it's looking horrible...
I can't wait another 6-7 months to pass, so I can finally enjoy(at least i hope so) my hair.
Luben
I'm at about nine months myself Luben, so I know how you feel. But if I look back, I can genuinely tell that my hair has grown significantly with each passing month and that, with the extra length, it is looking better and better every day. So even though it's hard now, I know in the long run it will have been more than worth it. I like to think of this awkward stage as a test in perseverence. All that to say, don't throw the hat in yet. Maybe you should post a pic and get advice from all the fellow MLHH members on how to better control the appearance of your hair at the stage its currently in.

I know where you're coming from, Luben. I went through a nasty awkward stage myself. My hair in back would not stay outside my shirt collar, over the right ear it wanted to flip outward instead of lying down flat. When I had tried in previous years to grow my hair out I would get to that stage, give up, and cut it, unaware that if I would just wait it out, my hair would eventually "behave" as it got longer. It took a LOT of patience to get past that stage, but I did it! I'm at almost 27 months now.
Hmm took me a while to come to a good answer, because I was not really consious why I like it. Just decided to grow it and never looked back because I love it.
I think the main reasons are the following:
First of all I like the look which the longhair gave me.
Second, before I had long hair after a few years I grew tired of my look and changed it. Right now I have different look everyday (especialy through the akward stage) so I never grow tired of it.
Now it's long I can change styles, ponytail higher of lower, or wear my hair loose.
Can't wait before it's long enough try some braiding.
Last of all, I always waited quite some time before going to the barber right now I don't have to worry about that my hair is always okay!
Johnnie,
I feel "whole" with my hair and beard growing naturally. It is the best and most complete expression of a man's masculinity.
I do enjoy the combined feeling of long hair brushing my back and the beard brushing my chest.

I am growing my hair mostly for reasons of identity and spirituality.
The longer my hair grows the more whole and happy I feel. Longer hair makes me feel less repressed and I feel more in touch with the natural world too.
On other levels it has increase my awareness of my masculine and feminine sides, of which every man whether straight or gay does have.
On the masculine side I feel more of a man with longer hair instead of a boy,( I really dig Conan the Barbarian as a role model ) and having the guts to be myself instead of follow dominant customs, and on the feminine side it allows me to nurture a part of myself in that prior to growing my hair out I didn't take too much care of myself and caring for long hair by being nice to it and nourishing it is a part of this and helps understand the lot of women better on that level. When my hair is longer I will try all of the different hairstyles and braiding just for fun.
And the sheer joy of seeing the ever-changing length of my hair over last 14 months with longer hair and hence what Mother Nature meant us to look like. I will probably aim for terminal just to see how long it can grow to.

I like the amount of quality acting jobs it gets me. The longer my hair and beard grow the more work I get and the better the roles are.
Welcome to the board glad to hear your into your 18th month
Do you have a pic to share with your intro? It's always great to be inspired by another longhair.
Kevin
Thanks Kevin. I have been shy about posting, feeling I need to wait till I get closer to classic length. MLHH is such a wonderful inspiration! johnnie
Hey johnnie
No need to feel shy. Updates are posted all the time showing the progressions from short to long. Might as well follow in the wonderful tradition of this board.
Welcome! :-)

Longhair to me is physically more attractive than a shaved, bald head. There is something about having longhair that humanizes a person giving them a more welcoming appearance. Every time I see a guy shaved bald he appears mean... as in mad at the world.Don't know why but this is how I view it.
Mark
I feel the same as you on that.

I am an Allman Brothers Tribute band member. I am supposed to be Gregg Allman but I often get mistaken for Warren Haynes. I really dont think I look anything like him.
I went to the Beacon Theater where the ABB are doing their historic Beacon run celebrating their music and Duane Allman. During Intermnission a really smokin Hot female comes up to me and says OMG you are him! I said yes I am, not having a clue who she thought I was. You play the greatest Guitar ever she said. So I relized she thought I was Warren Haynes the Allman Brothers great guitarist. I spoke to her a little and then tried to get away. She says "please wait here for one min,I need to run and get a piece of paper" I tried to leave again but she runs up to me with a piece of paper and pen going To Renee, To Renee. So I signed to Renee Peace and Love Warren Haynes after which she gave me a big juicy kiss right on the lipps Hahaha
Thats what I dig about my long hair!
Like Hairball wrote, to me, longhairs have a lot more comely appearance than the bald men. I kinda find it hard to imagine a bald guy for my friend; a short-haired man would do, but sheer baldness (without at least some hair on the back of the head, if you're an elderly man) just doesn't imply anything "friendly" and informal. I apologize to the bald, it's only my view.
Then, there is my identification with my favorite video-game and cartoon characters who mostly happened to be longhairs.
Finally, freedom to wear your hair in any style - be it loose, ponytail, braids, bun, chignon (ok, chignon is for ladies, but still looks fun to wear) - is a must for a person who is not satisfied with the narrowness the social norms always leave him/her in.
Seeing Mr. Wind also has a huge side-benefit over seeing other hairstylists in-town (besides the fact that he's the most clever and artistic stylist around): the price of visiting Mr. Wind is FREE!!!

What an excellent post!
Here's my list:
I hate the way I look with short hair.
I like to inspire others to grow theirs.
I like brushing it.
I like the way it feels on my neck and back.
I like the different ways I can wear it.
It's a good "conversation piece." lol
It annoys the fashion police, hair haters and hair nazis.
It lets me identify those who judge based on appearance rather than substance.
Some women like to play with it. :-)
I get compliments about it.
It makes me look younger.
I hate the way I look with short hair. (yes, it deserves a second listing)
And the number one thing I like... it makes me an individual.
Paul
P.S. Don't be shy about posting a pic. We have lots of people here who are just starting to grow their hair. Besides, updates make it easier to keep up your determination during the awkward phase.
I like the way it feels on my back when it's loose.
I love going for walks on windy days and feeling the wind blowing through my hair although it can take a while to detangle afterwards.
It's really relaxing to sit and brush it - next best thing to having a pet.
The longer it gets, the more compliments I get on it.
My favorite part of being a long hair is the stimulation that it brings to me. I was fascinated by men with long hair for as long as I remember things. It also shows out the curls and waves in my hair, and I am often attracted to waves and curls in other people's hair.
