Hi there long-haired guys. I've been growing out my hair for 9 months. It's kind of a wavy/curly type. My hair looks quite good when it's mid-dry, but when it's comletely dry it puffs a bit and I do not like it. Several months ago it used to be much, much puffier and messier than now, but still i'm trying to get rid of the puffiness(that word exists?) completely. The only thing that helped me so far is putting up a hat or a beanie for a few minutes, but are there some products, oils or other stuff that can tame atleast a bit my hair ? I do not have anything against hats, but it's getting quite warm and I'll probably stop wearing my hat soon.
Thanks :-)
Luben
Wow if I didn't know any better I would say it was me who posted that...same time growth, same puffiness, same hat/beanie wearing...weird...
Anyway I can't be much help, but sometimes when I go out and want it to look decent I use leave in conditioner, it helps keep it in check...I also finger come it a lot, I'll get out of the shower, dry it a bit, and then let it dry naturally and will continue to finger comb it until it is dry.
Luben,
My hair is the wavy/curly type also, mmm had agood point of leave in conditioner. Usaully mid point when its wet and dry I'll take a quater size of jojoba oil or L.I. cond. and finger it thru my hair. Another method is not using shampoo when ya shower and just rising , then condition ( or not ) . The natural oils in your hair will way that poof down. Ill go a week without shampoo just rinsing
A good site that others here suggest is
naturallycurly.com and
moptop.com
I havent used any the products but the look interesting
Good Luck
I have the solution for you: Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine.
Our hair sounds exactly the same, and I had tried everything in the past, including painfulling pulling it straight with a hair dryer, which got real old.
Here's what 'cha do:
Shower and shampoo. Condition if you want. Towel dry, then use a another towel to do a second blotting dry on your hair to get out the excess moisure.
Use 4 pumps (or more depending how long hair has gotten) and rub between your fingers. Apply to hair, ALWAYS starting from the back of your head first, then work your way to the front.
No need to comb, just kind of shape with your fingers. Looks pretty good still wet, but you'll be amazed how good you look after it's dry.
Good luck, Curly!

Thanks a lot, man :)
I'm gonna buy it tomorrow, but should I get the whole sleek and shine collection(shampoo+conditioner+serum), or I can go only with the serum ?
Cheers!
Luben

i have the same problem as you. i had dark brown hair and when i would dry it it got puffy and looked weird. i ended up wearing a beanie cap while i slept so it wouldnt be like that for school but it started pissing me off until the point where i just got a buzz cut.id like to grow it out again but im afraid that these products wont work. please send me the results of your using of these products. id like to see how they work before i let it grow out. w3lchforlif3@aim.com
you dont have to if you dont want to, but it would be greatly appreciated if you sent a picture of your hair after using these products.
thanks

Hey, Brandon ;)
I was like you too, exactly the same. I actually started growing my hair out in the beggining of 2008, but after a couple of months it started to look awful, so i cut it all of. But I realised that I made a mistake so i started growing it out again the next month(June 2008). The thing that kept me away from looking awkward, when I started growing it again was the hair straightener(flat iron) I've been using it for like 4 months, but I sold it to a friend cause eventually It probably would have caused a lot of damage to my hair. So I'm "flat-iron free" almost two months. I'm still at the awkward stage, but my hair looks waaay better and less puffy. I guess the longer it grows, the better it looks.
I have a few tips for you, if you decide to grow your hair again:
1.Never blow dry...it makes puffy hair, even puffier.
2.Use a lot of conditioner and less shampoo.
3.Definately try putting some oils like Jojoba, or Coconut oil, cause curly/wavy hair usually lacks in moisture.
However, I'll post a pic here probably in few days, but first I'll have to make some, cause i don't have any...I'm too ugly for photos...
