G'day all,
So I was thinking the other day, before heading out for a night of socialness, what's the best way to sort my hair to look the most 'presentable'. By this I mean that I make an effort on my clothing, etc, to make myself look smart, yet until now I haven't really done much with my hair.
I've got a headband, but I feel that's an around-the-house appearance. And my knowledge of other styles is very limited. So I appeal to the wisdom of the board...
How do you sort your hair when going for a smart/casual look, or for, say, a formal job interview?
As has been recently mentioned in other posts, one of the great things about long hair is the number of options it gives you :D
For job interviews and similar occasions, often a neatly-done ponytail or braid is a good idea. Keeps the hair neat and tidy, which business folks are likely to appreciate.
For social occasions where you're going for a 'dressy' look, it largely depends on your own preferences and possibly the attitudes of the group you're expecting to be with (if you're concerned about their reactions). My own preference for fancier occasions vary from the afore-mentioned styles to some variation on a half-tail. That gives you the advantage of keeping the upper parts tied back and out of your face, but still gives you much of the free-flowing effect as well. One particular favorite of mine is the conjoined-braid half-tailed style a friend did for me when my wife and I renewed our vows last year (pics of which I posted on the board at the time). Later today I'll see about posting some of those pics again, when I've got my laptop handy.
Not that smart then!
Ok, I'm a little confused... what are you trying to say, John?

Most of the time at work I have my hair up in a bun. It is a relief though when I get to the car and take out the pins and shake it all loose.
The reason I've chosen a bun over a tail is that I don't want my hair to be a distraction. On the other hand, one of our best salesman has grown his hair out to and keeps his in a loose pony tail.
When I'm going out with my wife for dinner etc, I'll usually opt for either a rope braid (which I can do myself) or a 4-strand braid that I need her help with.

Hey
Was keen to add a bit about bun etc. I guess we have to accept that in certain situations our appearance counts. In a management role my hair has always been kept very tidy and hopefully cheek. None of my work colleagyes know how long myhair is (butt) - bun is normal everyday but will get a french plait for occassions. I say get as I always go to have it done. Apart from holiday time I don't wear it loose apart from around house.
