I had 2 inches trimmed a week ago due to 'breakage/split ends'. Basically, the middle hairs reached my waist in the back, but the hairs on the outer sides, were, well, 2 inches back. LOL.
I've always had it blunt style and they say that most guys should go for U or V because it's more 'manly' or what have you. Pfft. Whatever.
I learned a great tip from a fellow longhaired girl recently, which is that when combing hair, do it from the bottom, up.
I tried it out, and OMG, my hair really did look better by doing it! :)
I keep saying that my goal length would be lower back, and even more recently, thought about tailbone. But the reality of that happening borders on my patience.
Some days, I feel like trimming it to shoulders because I feel like a douche walking around with an extremely long ponytail *shrugs*
Other times I lose faith that there are girls that exist in real life, that fancy long haired guys (well, I should clarify, girls that like hair past midback length on guys). I know plenty exist on myspace though. LOL. I need to get out more maybe :/
Here is a pic I took today of how I look. Sorry for it being a bit blurry. It's also a bitch to take vanity pics of yourself when you have really long hair. LOL
I've decided to trim 2 times a year, seeing how I want to continue to grow my hair, yet avoid breakage. I think trimming is a necessary evil. It sucks that it delays goals, but otherwise, hair starts looking like crap.
Hey ATP...great pic of you...your hair looks terrific as usual. I know what you mean about the trimming, etc. I am struggling with the thought myself of trimming about 2 inches off the back to even things up a bit...but I hate losing that 4 months of growth...but I guess it's for the best in the "long" run. Anyway, you look great and keep up the good work.
PS I do not think, personally, that blunt cuts are not masculine...I prefer it myself and hope to sport that look sometime.
Cheers,
Max
Hi ATP,
So what are you trying to say here?
Is it due to vanity of is it because you are not as patient as some people?
So trimmers let's have a quick straw pole and do you prefer vanity or a bit more patience? As always answers on a postcard to the trimmers central across yonder pond just off of olde Euro mainland!
Personally I've had a couple of snips over the years and it's down to beyond my belt now and not a bit of vanity in site! Patience is fine and as I've always you don't have to loose inches, blunt, U or V or ABC!
Cheers,
John.B
Yea,you tell em John!I would think major trims should only be used as an absolute last resort should hair be severely damaged. For example it got too close to an open flame. However everyone does what they want so if that's their decision they so be it.ATP's hair does look excellent though.Cheers
Mark
(I am pondering a bit of the same I guess.)
I have always wondered about the trimmers........that is, those who have regular trims and then cry at the end of a year that their hair isn't growing and what should they do? Be that as it may, vanity is not the case with me....and I HAVE had a few "minnor trim-dustings" to get rid of some splits over a 6 year period. Now I do it ALL myself. Who needs a salon to demolish ones hair? And of the ends being kept blunt? This is normally of concern ONLY to those already having very long hair for the most part. So little hair needs to be cut to restore so that the hair will not tangle at the ends.
Of patience or vanity,
each to their own-
but if something goes wrong,
you wear it all home!
All this talk of U V etc. should we worry about skin cancer perhaps wear a hat then we can hide our vanity under it.
LOL
Kevin
I am not going to get into the trim or not to trim debate...
You look fantastic !! I am surprised the ladies are not attacking you in the streets ! HA!
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
It's hard to give advice regarding if or how you should trim your hair, because judging by the picture, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. This is a terrific update photo... thanks for sharing!

Hi ATP, trims or not you have amazing long hair to be proud of and thats all that counts. I think I prefer the 'V' shape. The beard sets it off well and with the jacket and shirt its a very slick look.
I have found that girls fall into two categories, a) they love it and are mad for it, and b) hate it :-))), no in betweens.
So I guess what I am saying is 'when' you find one that loves it you will be fighting her off 24/7!! Now there's something to look forward to.
Cheers Dave
Hi ATP,
You are blessed with a truly outstanding head of hair, and with your thickness, you should have no trouble growing it a lot longer if you wish to do so. Also, rest assured that there ARE girls who like long hair on men, and they are certainly out there! I hope you do continue to grow to your wished for goal, and best of luck!
Keep it growing,
David
You are distinguished and handsome looking man, who just happens to have long hair. I don't know why any woman wouldn't like your looks. (And if I were hiring, and you were job seeking and qualified, you'd get the job.)
Hey ATP. Your hair looks awesome and really well kept. We all have those days when we think our hair looks bad, but yours looks incredible. Good Luck finding that long hair loving girl and with your performances.
Del
Hi Alex. Your hair looks nice long. It does not have to be a specific style, and I agree. I tend to be more of a V type with my hair down and a U when my hair is up (I go what is natural). Even after the trim, your hair is still mid-back. I will wait for mine to be mid-back before thinking of trims. I generally finger comb my hair, since it is easier on my hair. But I would try out your tip. My goal length is mid-back. As for girls fancying long haired men, just let to girl get used to you, and she will get used to your long hair (even if she likes short hair in general on men).
Matthew
your hair looks great. i love to see such a beary type with long good looking hair! trimming it from time to time doesn´t affect a worse look on you!!! thomase
