So this is my Update of 9 Months of hairgrowth.
I've had two trims so far that were actually sort of unnecessary. But at the moment I'm not quite sure whether I need one again due to split/dry ends. What confuses me is that the ends of my hair are straggly. What I don't know is if this is from the layer effect or if it's just me beeing scared and expecting the worst.
Anyway, my goal is to grow hair under my shoulder blades.

Absolutely glorious long hair and the colour is out of this world. Thank you for posting these photos.
Of the ends, it may be at some point that a little dusting of them would do the trick.........but I wouldn't for a minute dare touch the success you have at present. Most probably the unnecessary trims caused this to happen. When hair is left to itself, for the most part it evens-out all by itself just fine. When done in a Salon the chance for a mess-up is extremely high despite the fact that this should not be the case. Alas, all too often we hear horror stories of these butchers with selective hearing messing up some guys mane.
Welcome to the MLHH! :-)
Nice straight hair Morian!
Looks good for just 9 months growth w trims.
When you wash and take care of your your hair, treat it like you would treat a fine wool sweater that you want to last a long time.
With what you have now at 9 months, your hair should easily reach past your shoulder blades in another year.
Grow onward!
- Oren
Oh, don't worry, your ends are perfect ;)
Beautiful mane, and welcome among us !

Absolutely beautiful hair! - amazing texture and color. I wouldn't worry about the ends from what I can see. Best of luck and thanks for posting. Mark
Great progress, nice color and your ends look in very good condition! You are blessed to have such wonderful hair!

Your hair looks fantastic, Morian. As you have discovered, trims during the growing out process aren't necessary, unless the ends have a lot of damage. That damage usually will involve only the last centimeter (3/8") of your ends. Most hairdressers will cut off 5 times as much.
Here is an easy way to determine if you have split end damage. Do the ends of your hair tangle and cling together when you try to comb it? If so, you probably have damage on the ends. What is happening is that the splits tend to wrap around each other.
You can minimize damage by being gentle on your hair. Start at the ends and work your way up when combing it. Wide tooth combs are best. Use a good hair conditioner too.
Finally, you should be easily able to grow past your shoulderblades. You may find once you reach your goal that you will want it even longer.

Looks like you've made some excellent progress in just 9 months, Morian. Of course it's difficult to tell just by looking at a picture, but your hair looks to be in good condition to me. Try to avoid trimming it if at all possible. Just stick to a washing/conditioning routine that works for you and let it grow.

Hi Morian,
What an outstanding update, and you are blessed with thick and healthy hair that grows quickly. In my opinion, no trims are necessary at all, just let it grow!
Keep it growing,
David
Hi Morian,
Welcome aboard the longhaired ship mlhh!LOL.Thanks for posting your two truly outstanding pics as you have very healthy looking hair.Like the others stated just let it grow and take good care of your hair and you will reap the rewards.I'm sure you may even want to adjust your goal length as it lengthens my friend.Cheers
Mark
That is a great length for nine months, especially if you have had so called maintenance trims. You will hear a great deal of discussion and opinions about trims, but most here will suggest avoiding them.
If you are concerned with your ends, put your hair in a ponytail and heavily condition just the bottom inch or so with leave in conditioner or jojoba oil. When you undo the tail, you we find the ends more controllable.
Your hair is a beautiful colour !!
Good Luck and we look forward to you next update.

Hi Morian, you shouldn't be experiencing split ends at 9 months unless you are mistreating it. Just make sure you condition right to the ends and stay away from hot blow dryers. I am at 38 months with no trims and have maybe 2 or 3 split ends.
Anyway your hair looks great and healthy in that shot, so keep it growing and flowing!

You really remind me of Justforkix from "Asterix and the Vikings" with the hair and dress, lol
How short was it to begin with?
That looks awesome. And all that in nine months is great. Looks to be in great condition.
Good luck with growing it even longer.

That's great growth for only 9 months with trims!
Keep it growing and you will reach you goal in no time.
Thank you to all for your kind comments! This seems to be a very cool board and it is very inspirational to hear kind words of fellow longhairs and it is always interesting seeing the long hair of others! So keep up the good work !!
