My hair is now long enough now that i can barely put it into a queue (very short tail) right in the middle of the back of my head. I would like to end up wearing it like Steven Segal did in Marked for Death. My question is...do i just keep growing all of my hair until it is long enough to pull back, or should a stylist be cutting it a certain way to facilitate the look that i want? I have had a crew cut for the past 10 years and decided to go long!
thanks
Your best bet is to simply let it grow all around until the majority is at or past your goal length, and then trim it periodically to maintain the length you want. Cutting it in between merely prolongs the wait until it will all reach a tying-point. And keep in mind you have to have enough length past the hair-tie if you want it to stay tied back for any length of time. Otherwise strands will quickly work themselves loose,
Thanks, I will heed that advice. Also, here is a before pic. I will post a current pic in just a bit...
And here is my current length. I really love it!
Wow really like the change, the longhair looks very good on you!
Now for your question, just let it grow until it long enough.
Trimming is not needed unless your hair is damaged.
Be gentle with your hair and you don't need a trim for a very long time. That way you reach your goal lenght quicker.
Good luck with growing and I'm looking forward to your updates.
Dear Mr. formerjack,
My suggestion is to skip the stylist., and just let it grow, grow, grow... Unless you're already having problems with split or damaged ends (which is unlikely at your current stated length), stylists cannot help you achieve more length, --- in fact, if anything, they hinder it!
OK all you non-trimmers, your turn to add to my comments (lol)!!

PS - WOW, 10 years of having crew cuts... That reminds me of my childhood, --- a VERY scary thought! (Pic included in this post is of me and my 4 brothers in the summer of 1965, I think, --- with Niagra Falls in the background... which is how long I wanted my hair to be at that time!)
I thought i was being more businesslike with a crewcut and i was wrong. People tell me i seem to be friendlier and more approachable with long hair, and my business has increased since i let it grow out!
Thank you for your advice!
Were you really a jackman for a racing team? Which one? Ken pretty much answered your question; I just like your name.
