I recently posted a topic about growing my hair for the first time and i wanted to thank you all for ur great comments and words of encouragement. I love my goal length of mid back but i definately think i could go longer it would be amazing to have really long thick hair down to lower back or hip length. I have received alot of feedback asking for a picture. Here is a picture of myself back before I started growing. It is a very short buzz cut, however my hair now is currently about three inches long. I figured this pic at least would show my face structure and everything so I hope it works. Also, what style and what length do you think would look best on me now that you have seen the picture. Thanks.
Wow, you're gonna surely shock some family/friends! But I'm sure the long hair will be fine!
Take care,
-Christian Epp
Hi there Mr. Pburgh 56,
That is a very interesting question you ask, --- one that we occasionally hear, but not all that often put in such a specifically-worded way as you just did, above... Here is my version of a helpful answer:
Don't think too much about what specific hairstyle and/or length will work best with your specific facial structure or body type, etc. Just grow it. Experiment, if you wish, with trims and/or re-styling cuts; but, be forewarned: the more often you trim it, the more time it will take for your hair to get truly looooooong.
Also, be even more seriously forewarned: do NOT just walk into any-old hair salon (and definitely NOT a typical barber shop or cheap chain-store type of salon. You'll get what you pay for, --- and trust me, a lot of those types of hair-cutters have poor hearing or at least very "selective" hearing... and then you'll walk out of there in misery over how quickly hair can all be removed when it took years and years for it to grow! Go to the most reputable hair salon you can find, preferably one that has been recommended to you by a fellow longhair (long-haired women will tell you, if you don't know any longhaired men), --- they will cost a lot more $$$; but, you'll get EXACTLY whatever you ask for, because they're more skilled (including more skilled at LISTENING to your wishes and goals).
The average MLHH user here could care less about whatever is popular on the fashion runway. This year, even if fashion magazines say that long hair on men is "IN"; next year, they are bound to say that it is "OUT!" Ignore the so-called "Fashion Police"... Discover whatever hair length and style makes YOU happiest, not whatever someone else approves of or disapprove of. And as far as your facial structure, etc. goes... you can always grow a beard, --- part of the fun of self-discovery along the way to longer hair on your head!!!
Check out MLHH's Links section, as there's a lot of great reading there. In my opinion, different hair-length goals will come & go and even change with the wind, --- especially if this is your first time growing it out (because any stated ultimate "goal-length" is still very much a theoretical concept, rather than having actually experienced much hair length yourself, first-hand).
Just begin the journey, and regularly stay "tuned-in" right here at MLHH. As you continue to travel down the longhaired highway, you will read a lot of good tips as to which are the best longhaired motels and restaurants to stop at along the way (symbolically-speaking, that is - LOL). Growing your hair out should be fun, --- an adventure! It is not a contest or a fashion statement. It's simply a joy to have on your head, and a joy to watch it grow, --- and a process of self-discovery, both "inside" as well as out, all along the way!!
