Hey guys I really like the support of this website and didn't hesitate to bring up a couple photos of my hair type so that I can get your opinion. About 5 months ago I started growing my hair out for the first time. It was amzing and I see what you guys mean about having long hair, it was like a total change in myself, one which I loved.
So anyways here is a picture from about it at it's longest. Anyways once it started covering my eye brows I got it trimmed a bit and it wasn't drastic. However the second time I got it trimmed the lady took so much length off it was seriously depressing. FINALLY it's a bit longer now and I'm wondering should I go ahead and grow out thick wavy/curly hair simply because I've never done it before??
I guess the akward stage has me thinking "well maybe it's meant for a medium length." But I do wanna just say screw it and let it really get long this time. What do you guys think?
Piece of advice for you; let it grow without trims. As it grows, weight and gravity will pull out the curls and waves somewhat. I have natural waves when hair is above shoulders, but below shoulders, hair is virtually slick-straight. Weight and gravity are natural relaxers. Trimming just prolongs the process.
That's interesting. When I had shorter hair it was very very wavy, but now that it is longer (3-4 cm past my ears) the waves are starting to disappear. I hope my hair is like yours and once i get past shoulder length it'll be more or less straight. i love straight hair and it is also easier to mantain .

Greetings Doggin, your hair is off to a great start. As stated below, your hair will straighten out with added length. At mid back length your hair will have a few pleasing waves in it and look fantastic. For the next 2 years or so you want to avoid trims, unless you have a lot of damage on the ends. (Most end damage can be removed with trimming only 1/4" off which won't even be noticable.)

Trims as a rule never help your hair (only minimize damage if you have splits, but wait a while for those). It's a pity you got a few trims, otherwise I'm sure you'de be farther along. Oh well, you seem to have a decent amount there. Go ahead and grow it out, but since you have curly/wavy hair, you'll have to be a little more cautious concerning knots, especially as a bird's nest 'do' seems to be awesome ammuniton for people who want you to cut.
Oh, one command, however: enjoy the hair! >:)
Goodluck (and be sure to drop by),

Hi Mr. Doggin',
First off, I agree with what Just Carol said, below, --- although if you eventually find that you really just prefer to maintain your hair at medium-length, there is certainly nothing wrtong with that, either! (Medium-length hair is certainly less boring than super-short hair, at least - LOL!!)
I'd also like to make an additional comment, based on both age and experience: if you're curious about how it might be to have really looooooong hair, my suggestion is: GROW IT WHILE YOU'RE YOUNG!!
Trust me when I say this: right now your hair is at its thickest, fullest, and in best color and condition. I wish I had grown my own hair out when I was younger, --- I didn't have my hair long enough to put into a ponytail until I my 40th birthday! Don't wait until you are 40, like I did. Grow it out NOW.... You won't regret it!
You can always cut it shorter if you find super-long hair to be too much of a nuissance for you; but, as you grow older, most men experience some degree of hair-thinning and/or balding (or at least greying and a receding hairline, which is what I have)... Not to say that you still can't grow it out then; but, just saying that you might someday regret not doing it sooner, if you decide to put it off for now....
In any case, I hope my comments have helped!

Hi Doggin. I also have this wavy/curly hairtype and i'll have to say - Just let it grow, man :). I've been growing my hair for exactly 10months now and the more it grows the better it looks. My hair is also very thick and in the beginning I though that i'll grow an afro...so that really bothered me and I started to use flat iron to straighten it. Which was a big mistake !!! My hair wasn't left that damaged, but it wasn't looking very healthy eighter. So I stopped using the flat iron and trimmed 1inch of my hair. However that was almost 3 months ago and my hair grew alot since then.
So I wish you good luck on your hair journey and if you have any questions about hair, you'll be more than welcome to ask :)

You look like you're djing, awesome, but yeah let it grow.
Thanks for the all the encouragement to grow out my hair longer (shoulder length at least). I think long hair looks fantastic on both guys and women and have nothing to lose!! I'll be back to post some progress pics.
I've lost alot of my curls although I still have some decent waves. as your hair gets longer, the straighter it will become. My advice: let it grow, let it grow, let it grow
Daniel
Looks good... I'm curious to see what this would look like if you grew it out. With that curly nature in your hair you could get some awesome hairstyles. I'm just starting out myself, so we're in the same boat. Good luck in your venture. :>
Also, a personal question. I think I know you. Do you live in or near Wichita, Kansas perchance?
Hi Doggin,
Welcome to the hyperboard.
I agree with the rest, let it grow. Those stylist won't listen and they usually hack off a lot more than you tell them to.
In my opinion "all one length" is pretty easy to maintain.
The color is a bit weird in your pic but it looks like you're red headed.
