Hey guys,
I don't think i told you guys before but I should have told you that I straighten my hair
I've decided to quit straightening it because of the damage it can cause
I've been using a lot of moisturizing products to prevent it from being fried
This is what my hair looks like naturally when brushed
Does it look damaged?
Best Wishes,
Josh

Hi Josh,
I think your hair looks fantastic from what I can see as there doesn't appear to be any damage.A close up pic would better confirm that.Since you mentioned having straightened your hair was it wavy or curly before hand?At least you did stop the straightening as it would have been a shame to hurt your awesome mane.Lookin' great my friend:)Cheers
Mark

It is difficult to determine if your hair has damage, Josh. A macro photo closeup of the ends of your hair might be helpful.
There are some non visual ways to determine if your hair may be damaged:
1) if you feel a rough texture when you run your fingers down the length of your hair, especially near the ends.
2) if your comb or brush tends to snag near the ends.
3) if you have lots of split ends.
4) if your hair breaks easily.
It is best not to straighten your hair. Your hair appears to be about waist length, and the weight of it alone should keep it reasonably straight. How much wave or curl does it have without doing straightening treatments? Here is the URL for Fia's Hair Typing System: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=5
If the damage is a real problem, you may be able to trim it off in tiny amounts, to preserve as much length as possible. Trimming off 1/4" to 1/2" of damaged hair every 3 or 4 months may be enough to cure the problem, allowing you to gain length during the process.
Hopefully you don't have much damage.
Scott

Hey Josh:
Your hair looks GREAT!!! How about a pic of the back? (not that the front doesn't look good :-) )
John
Hi Josh,
Good to hear from you and from what I can see your hair looks great from the front. As the other John says try and post one from the back. You hair as a nice but subtle wave and adds body to it.
Cheers,

Hi Josh
I cannot really tell from the photos that any damage has been done, but of course you would know better than would I because you can see the hair up close. From the photos it looks great!
Perhaps try some "Leave-in Conditioner" and see how that does. I wouldn't give-up all hope just yet.
Justin~
Fabulous looking hair Josh!
I have no way of assessing damage by the photos posted.
The good advise given by Scott and others will help you.
It will be nice to see it in its natural state.

Hey Josh
I don't think you should worry that much. Your hair looks absolutely gorgeous to me. I've also straightened my hair for quite a long time, maybe 4-5 months and i've been growing it out for 10 months already. I quit straightening it simply cause I just don't wanted to ruin it completely. So I think you should't straighten it ever again. Your hair is very long, it looks great, it's simply unnecessary.
Cheers !
Luben
Hi Josh
From what I can see your hair isn't severely damaged. It may be a little dry from the straightening but not unmanageable. I think your hair looks good with a little bit of a wave in it, glad you stopped the chemical torture known as straightening.
Kevin
hey dude
your hair looks really good as I can see.
My hair is almost that length and a bit blonder, but my texture is a bout the same. Maybe a bit straighter.
I too tried straightening here and there, but I do like the very subtle wave here and there when i usually air dry it.
What I have found if you want your hair to be straight/really smooth (really straight) is to just blow dry it...its much better than scorching it with an iron and it does give your hair some body too
if the ends (or anywhere) feel dry, maybe just a simple dusting trim might help, afterwards a hot oil treatment or deep conditioner following it, then using something like that here and there should help your ends/hair if they are damaged
But again your hair looks really nice man!
Peace!
Hey Josh,
Nope, I had no idea you used straightener. From the pics it looks great to me but as others pointed out, it's had to tell.
I think you do have a badass mane and you don't really need to straighten it. I don't know how wavy or curly it is naturally but the way it looks in those pics suits you. It's not really that curly.
Speaking of straight vs. curly hair, let's not forget Robert Plant, he let his curls fall as they may. Although I personally like straight hair better, he does have a killer mane. Me and my wife even use him as a reference when describing other people's hair, often using the phrase "Robert Plant hair" to describe somebody with long curly blond hair that's in great shape.

Huh? No--it looks great! I wish I had hair like that (though it probably wouldn't fit my face--mine needs to be, and fortunately is, a lot thicker). In particular, I can never get my hair to fall the way I want in front unless I have bangs, so you're one step ahead of me there, too.

Your hair looks great in the picture and suits your face well, Josh.
In any case, it would be better not to straighten it as this could damage your hair as you say.
