Any one have a site to reccomend for the kinetically challenged that would like to braid one's own hair?
Check out the Links section. One link goes to a braiding site or you might find the links to two videos of self-braiding to be helpful.

I was going to say I'm sure our resident braid expert Jason will be able to offer some good advice.
The best thing to do is just practise at it until you finally get it. I tried and tried for years but would just give up and say the heck with it, "I just can't do it" until one day I sat down in front of a mirror (figuretively, I was actually standing) and I didn't leave until I had successfully braided my hair. That was a almost a year ago and I started with a single low braid in the back. Now that I'm more experienced in braiding my own hair, I recommend starting out with the double braid as shown in the pic (because quite frankly, you can see what it is your doing, which makes it alot easier) and just keep practicing until you get it, then work on the single braid after you get the double down pat. I still have trouble with the single myself even though I've been doing it alot more (and longer) than the double, but the major issue with the single is you can't see what your doing until you get down to collar length. Where with the double you can see exactly what your doing from the very begining. Just make up your mind that your going to do it no matter how long it takes, and you'll do it. Be stubborn about it and you'll do just fine. It's well worth the hassel of learning, I can't believe that it took me this long to sit down until I learned it. I should have been braiding my own hair for years.

A good way to start is to braid your fringe. You can see what you're doing. Another good thing to do is to find someone to practise on. It's much easier to do someone else's hair than your own.
