Happy St. George's Day to you also. I'm going to leave Old Snap be today.
From Spenser's Faerie Queene (1.10.61); Contemplation to Red Cross Knight who would become St. George of myth:
Then seeke this path, that I do thee presage,
Which after all to heaven shall thee send;
Then peaceably thy painfull pilgrimage
To yonder same Hierusalem do bend,
Where is for thee ordained a blessed end:
For thou emongst those Saints, whom thou doest see,
Shalt be a Saint, and thine owne nations frend
And Patrone; thou Saint George shalt called bee,
St. George of mery England, the signe of victoree.
John:
Enjoy the Day...
Enjoy the Ale...
My place is covered with Dragons, so I will be off a'slayin' in your honor !!
Ok, learn something new all the time. Didn't know there was a St.George's Day. But I'll wish you and your fellows a happy one anyway!!!
I wont slay one but I'll chase the Dragon for your holiday.
Peace.
The Cross of St. George has seen many a reincarnation in the flags of the English speaking nations and our states Alabama and Florida encorporate it into their flags. A variation was adapted in several flags of the Confederacy the best known of which was its battle flag. Today is also known as Wm. Shakespeare's birthday! So, happy day to all for all good reasons and Cheers!
I never heard of this day before, but then again I have only known of "Curious George." And, there's no Monkeying around when it comes to those stories. Still don't know who the man with the yellow hat is.
Happy St. George Day to one and all and glad you told us of this John.
Thanks! :-)
Justin~
I'm a little bit late, but I'm listening to only English music in honour of the day. Right now, it's Status Quo, Burning Bridges! Headbanging as they play, of course (on video).
