Greetings,
I'm curious about the typical daily routine for all of you that have significant long hair. I'd like to hear from Max L, Nuttidave, Garth, Urban Cowboy, and all the rest of you.
Hope everyone is having a good Spring so far. Keep healthy and keep that hair growing.
Peace,
VJ
Oh dear I don't make this list from rest!
LOL, I guess that means that even though your hair is both longer AND fuller / thicker than mine, that you still have to "try harder" in order to get on that list next time... ROFL!!!
Hope all is well w/ you, John, and that you're having a lovely Spring over there on your side of The Pond.
- Ken (who is amazed, considering that I hardly post here anymore, that I made "the list!")
Nothing terribly special. Get up in the morning, work out any overnight tangles by finger-combing, often brush it out with a boar-bristle brush. On workdays generally tie it back, maybe use the plastic clips I've mentioned to clip back the upper part (see my post about the "Quasi-Halftail"). Every now and again, my wife is up early enough to braid it for me. A few times a day I'll do a little finger-combing, usually when I visit the restroom. Finger-comb it and brush it a bit before bedtime.
Wash and condition it twice a week, generally once mid-week and once on the weekend. Air-dry it after washing, finger-combing it now and again to work out tangles as it dries. Usually brush it out some after it's completely dry.
VJ;
Don't miss Justin's wacky videos....of course you have to wade through a bunch of "longhair" music to pick them out !
Enjoy

Thank you Walter for telling of these videos. Much appreciated. But I must warn anyone of you who dares to venture and see these that afterwards you may find yourself being persued by a Butterfly net!
Take care-
Justin~

Greetings VJ, hope you are doing well. My routine since I have very fine hair and a very oily scalp means washing nearly every day. I gently finger comb overnight tangles then wash/condition, (using a liberal amount of conditioner) then air dry. I either wear it loose or in a tail. (wish I had someone to braid it for me sometimes) and comb it a few times during the day. The key for me is being very careful when combing/detangling since my hair is so fragile. Hope this helps.
Take care,
Max L.
Hi vj,
I very gently finger-comb my hair a few times throughout the day.
I wash my hair about three time a week. Shampoo, condition, rinse, and a final rinse with a mix of vinegar and water (1 part white or apple cider/3 or 4 parts water)
Using the vinegar rinse on my hair and beard, dandruff is virtually non-existent, and leaves my hair soft and shiny.
Nutrition-wise, I take a multivitamin, MSM, biotin, vitamin C 3-4000 mg daily, and enzymes.

My routine is very simple, I don't want to spend a lot of time daily on my hair. There are far more better things to do.
First of all I have very thick wavy hair.
I wash it once a week with very little shampoo and use a lot of conditioner. I work out all the tangles with my hands and after that I comb it with a wide tooth shower comb.
Than I rinse it and finger comb and comb it again.
After that I let it dry and do NOTHING with it until the next shower. If I comb it when it's dry it becomes very frizzy and tangles a lot. When I don't comb it I have a sort of loose dreads.
This takes about an hour weekly so that's not a lot of time :)
When I sport and need a shower more than once a week, I only use conditioner and do the same as above but without the shampoo. I like to keep the natural oils in my hair.
Well I don't really have a typical routine, because I drive a truck for a living which mean that I don't have a typical day.
Anyway, when I get up I take down the ponytail(s) or braid(s) (if I happened to have went to bed with the double braid and they haven't messed up during the night [not sure why but the double braids rarely mess up during the night] I might skip this morning ritual) brush the hair out, as I'm brushing decide on how I want my hair today. If I'm just going to ponytail it, I put it up and keep adding bands as I go down the length of my hair, which in my case is five bands (If I do double pony's, same thing, five bands per side.) If I choose the braid(s) I damp my hair down because it's easier to work with when it's somewhat damp. Then braid away. I don't just leave my hair down because my hair tend to just fly everywhere and damages and/or tangles easily. I wash my hair about four or five times a week, shampooing once every week to two weeks. Use conditioner about two to three times a week and just water only wash the rest. When I go to bed, if I'm in pony tail(s) I go ahead and brush it out again, but if I'm in braid(s) I just wait until morning to mess with it again.
Daniel
Thanks to all of you who replied to my note. I'd still would like to hear from the rest of you.
You guys Rock!

Well everyday when i wake up my hairs in bedhead mode, depending on how bad it is i spend 2-10 minutes finger detangling it, then i run a wide toothed comb through it all and finish off my brushing it all around.
As for shampooing/conditioning, well i am trying to see how my hair reacts to "no poo" so i havent shampooed my hair for the past week and a half, not doing too bad yet, tend to condition it once or twice every week with Loreal Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Conditioner, not so sure if its a good conditioner or not its the first "proper" conditioner ive used (others were 2 in 1), not much to compare it too, soon ill try out another conditioner or two see how they treat my hair.
Well thats my whole hair routine right there pretty much, not quite long enough in the front to put into a pony tail yet or anything.
WOW, vj, I hardly post here anymore, --- so, was a bit surprised anybody would even remember that I still have long hair, let alone want to know what I do to take care of it... I'm flattered that I made your list (eat your heart out, John B - ROFL)!!!
OK, this is what I do in order to keep my floor-length hair in such PERFECT condition... (Ahemmmm... I-I-I mean, belt-length-when-I-tilt-my-head-back hair in such mediocre/OK sort-of condition...)....
Believe it or not, I actually try not to fuss too much over hair care. This does NOT mean that I "don't" occasionally indulge in fussing, --- just that i TRY not to!
In an average week, I usually only do a thorough shampooing twice per week. Once in awhile I'll try to go the whole entire week with just one shampooing; but, then again, depending on the events of each individual week, I sometimes might shampoo three times per week (especially whenever I have a particularly dusty, dirty gardening job I might be doing, or if abnormally hot & sticky weather at my cooking job).
By the term, "thorough shampooing", I mean: whatever the average shampoo bottles suggest on their label in their directions (you know, "Wash Lather Rinse Repeat")...
Sometimes I'll do a quick-version shampooing, though (just one washing).
Regardless of the above, i ALWAYS use LOTS of CONDITIONER afterwards (and I do mean, "LOTS!!!!!").
I also occasionally will do a water-wash only.
As far as combing goes, it's always best to finger-comb first, then untangle with a wide-toothed comb starting with the ends of the hair, first; then moving gradually up towards the scalp before attempting long strokes from crown-to-ends. I use a comb when my hair is wet & still full of conditioner. When my hair is dry, i prefer using a brush.
I also have been a life-long brusher (even when my hair was much shorter), following "grandma's" advise to stimulate blood flow in the scalp, and to brush approximately "100 strokes" to help the natural hair oils coming from the scalp to travel on down towards the ends (where the oil is needed the most). I do this only when I feel like it, though (like if my scalp feels itchy, but I don't have time to shampoo). I also never literally count 100 strokes, --- I just simply stop brushing after my scalp and hair feel better!
Everybody is different, --- so, don't worry too much about it. You'll find whatever works best for you in the end. And don't be afraid to try something new that you might read about here (as long as it's not TOO far out into "left field" - LOL).... I haven't yet tried the vinegar/water rinse idea, for example; but, probably will give it a go eventually, just out of curiosity if nothing else.
Hope that helps!
- Ken
What's you hair care routine if you would like to share with us?
John,
Great update pictures. Totally awesome.
As for me, I've been in this journey just shy of 15 months. Been a newbie, I was mainly asking because I think that I wash too often-4-5 times a week. OF course I'm mostly outside working and the conditions are usually quite dusty and warm. I've tried to go a few days with just rinsing with water but it "feels" odd.
BTW, I did not mean to leave anyone out in my original post, so no hard feeling right?
Cheers,
VJ
