....was what I heard from behind me as I was finishing up making a purchase at a truck stop convenience store. I just let it go in one ear and out the other and wasn't going to let it bother me. But when a turned and started to leave, there he was. The comment came from 'another dang long haired hippie'. He then said, "If your going to do that, the least you could do is learn how to braid." I had been lazy earlier that day and instead of putting my hair up in the double braid, I had opted for the double ponytails with five hair bands a piece (which actually took longer to do than the double braid does). The man I was looking at could of passed for my twin (except he was heavier than me) braids and all. He said, "It's good to see another white man do his hair like that. I do the double braid just to be different, I had never seen anyone else do that before." I had to agree with him. Outside of First Nations People, I had never seen any other guy do the double braid either, that is in person. We talked for a few moments then we both went on our way, he went to his semi, and I went to mine and headed on down the road. It sure was good to run into him, and hope it happens again sometime.

Hey Daniel - I did this for the first time as Willie Nelson for Halloween a few years back...I liked it so much, I did it several times thereafter, but only when going to "my" bar (where I am a regular and have friends). I think it is a cool look, especially combined with a beard : )
Sadly, my hair started dreading so bad I couldn't get a braid anymore...I'm growing back out, and plan on the pigtails again in a year or so : )
I still have about 5 inches of hair left after my cut, and I've truly enjoyed nudging my longhair friends w/hippie comments (all in good fun, of course).
I went as Willie Nelson to a New Year's party this year -- braided pigtails, red bandanna, and black t-shirt. Planned it for a month ahead of time and didn't shave for that month so I'd have a bit of a beard. Got voted best costume!
Awesome...I love a free costume! I wore the same, but added a pack of rolling papers hanging out of my shirt pocket : )
Obviously, I really like the double braids in and of themselves, but another thing that I like about them is all the positive feedback that I've been getting since I started doing the double braids. It has definately proved to be a chick magnet. :)

Running into other longhairs like that is fun, especially when they have a good sense of humor about it all, and want to connect w/ you in a "comraderie" sort of way. Every once in a rare while, though, I make the unfortunate mistake of saying something to a humorless, clueless, too-serious-type longhair... In which case, they just stare at me, like I'm from Mars.
Maybe I am from Mars. On Mars, we occasionally speak to total strangers, --- as long as I'm a longhair speaking to another fellow longhair. Eathlings who have not yet figured out that this behavior is perfectly harmless and safe to paticipate in possibly don't have any of our Mars blood running through their veins...
There. That explains it, I think. WHEW! Yet another MLHH mystery solved, just by posting a reply on this board (lol)!!
Thanks for your posts, Daniel, as I always enjoy reading them!

Thanks Ken. It's good to know that someone enjoys reading my posts....LOL
Well it is good that you did solve that MLHH mystery, I've wondered about that myself quite often and now I know. Ah, what an education that one gets simply by reading MLHH.
