Hey everyone, my name is Ryan and i live in California, i have been lurking on these boards for many months since my last haircut (which felt incredibly wrong to me) and i have decided to grow my hair out as long as it will grow! It may take a long time but that's no problem, i hated having shorthair anyways so its worth it, i have recently learned more about my hair and have begun taking care of it, one of my first steps is to quit shampooing my hair altogether if i can help it, i was a user of Head and Shoulders (gasp) for the first 14 years of my life (currently 15) and i am also trying to figure out a good conditioner for me, which i am not having much luck doing since i went 14 years without. Anyways, any comments or advice is appreciated and i wish you all well in your hairgrowing ventures
Welcome Dude!!!
Thats quite a start you've got there. Looking great. I use Aussie shampoo (for long hair) and the Aussie conditioner(for long hair) works for me great.I wash with both every 4-5 days.
Thanks for the tip, but i really have been thinking about quitting experimenting too much with conditioners until my hair is out of the awkward stage, my hair is too random atm, hard to predict what its gonna turn out looking/feeling like from one day to another, and adding conditioner only increases the degree of unknown stuff that may happen seems like, hard to determine whether the conditioner is actually doing anything for me or if its something else.
Hey Ryan,
You have fantastic hair. I, like you also struggle with my hair doing whatever it pleases. I did experiment with conditioners for a bit though. I tried expensive ones and cheap ones. In the end I found that the mid priced Pantene line worked well for me and it seems to make my hair a bit more manageable and to my liking. I'd say try something until you find what you like that's part of the fun of growing it out, you get to learn all kinds of stuff about your hair as it gets longer. Anyways keep it growing man..It's looking great!
Hm, i believe a few months ago i was using a pantene shampoo and i favored it over my previous shampoo (head and shoulders, lol) but i havent tried one of their conditioners yet, may give it a try, but atm im considering trying a great number of conditioners ive got positive feedback from, i think i will just stick with my current conditioner for awhile till its about run out and then try another one, continue on in that fashion that way not only am i giving my hair a variety of different conditioners over the course of time, but i get to examine their effect over a longer period of usage.
In any case, it may take awhile for me to find that perfect conditioner(s) for me, but thats just what makes it interesting =p
if you desire to have the best hair possible and should be used starting right in the beginning.
Perhaps try the Aussie line. Very basic, not all that expensive and does the job for most everyone.
Conditioner is "Nectar of the Gods" for your hair.
Yes, i realize this, ill take your guys advice and try a conditioner from the aussie line soon, do you recommend any particular one, or should i just look at them all and see which one i think my hair needs.
P.S. Justin i watched all your youtube videos (including the piano ones, good job) and felt your advice was very helpful, and your attitude very inspiring.
Hey Ryan! Welcome! Your hair is nice and healthy and thick.
You have an awesome start. I think that you have the potential
for some really awesome long hair.
Are you in northern or southern California?
Thanks! I live in the central valley, had a heat wave here a few days ago up in the 90s and now its raining, lol.

Greetings, Ryan. Your hair is off to a great start. If you can do without shampoo at all, using water only, you are better off. (I have to use shampoo. I have way too much oil. Water only does not work for me.) For now, just let your hair grow.

Welcome to the hyperboard, and you are off to a great start. You are blessed with thick and fairly straight hair, and it should be a breeze to grwo it a lot longer. We look forward to supporting you as you grow towards your goal.

David
