The other day i was mistaken for a woman from behind while at a store with my sister. A guy walked up and addressed us "you ladies" but quickly apologized when i turned around and he realized his mistake. I wasnt mad but rather bemused. Has this happened to you? often? does it bother you? haha thats all for now. see ya around.
The same thing happened to me the other day. It doesn't bother me at all. It's a good sign that my hair is finally getting longer.
Oh yes it's a common thing and I used to get it alot. It's fun and look on their faces when I turn aroundand they see I have a goatee and it's see funny.
Cheers,

As long as you turn to them in slow motion with that "Harmony Hairspray" flick of the hair (grin)...!

Been watching too many of those 70's commercials again..grin!
You know, the strange thing is, people used to mistake me for a woman even when I had SHORT hair (maybe because of my physical build, lack of facial and body hair). So, when I started to grow my hair, I thought it would happen much more often. But it hasn't happened anywhere as much as I expected.
The other weird thing is that I always had this stereotypical notion in my head that women were much better than men at discerning gender, but it turned out that women are at least as equally confused as men by my long hair. One woman even said, "I don't understand," when I clarified that I was a guy after she asked.
But sometimes men seem to get confused, too. There was a time when I was in a nearly empty Japanese restaurant and two men came in and sat right next to me. One of the men leans over and peers at me. He then turns to the other man and says, "Dansei desu yo!" (Japanese for: "Male, you know!").
Oh, a similar thing happened when I was at a gay-lesbian film festival. I was in a theater of mostly guys with mostly short hair (it was gay films that day) and a short-haired woman comes up and sits right next to me. She smiles and says hello. I smile and say hello. After the short feature ends, she politely excuses herself and by the end of the afternoon I notice she's sitting next to one of the few long-haired women in the room.

As to your second question, no it doesn't bother me.

at least once. When I turned around, they were very surprised. This was before I grew the long luxuriant beard.

This has never happened to me. Like Absolom said, the beard helps. I've never not had a beard since I grew my hair longer.

I've had it happen too. I find it amusing usually. One time at a party I had three different people say it. I didn't really like that because I just overheard them whisper to their friends that they thought I was a girl at first, instead of actually saying something to me. I think if I wasn't short it wouldn't happen as much. Maybe I should just grow back the beard...
I bet Conan would have not had any trouble! I'd grow the beard back mate as suited you.

This happened to me the other day at a restaurant. The waiter approached the table he was behind me and said..."may I get you a drink ma'am?". I stood up and towering over him (i am 6ft 5in tall) said "would you like to rephrase that?"...there was an awkward silence...then We all started laughing and i told him not to worry about it and we had a great meal!

I get that all the time......must be my girlish figure.

Now mind those boxes and bend zee knees and keep zee back straight as the don would say!
I was once mistaken for a Monkey, or so the woman said. But then again she had a Monkey Mouth (as in a Primate) and was eating peanuts in the store. LOL :-)
I was actually excited when I was first mistaken for a woman, it felt a mark of passage into longhairness. I was at a bar with a friend, and a waitress walked up behind me, and said "Excuse me, would you like a..", cut herself off, and walked off. Leaning over to the next table, I saw she was handing out free champagne tickets, for ladies, and I almost got one!
The most recent time I was on a plane, the stewardess came over and addressed the whole row, "Excuse me, ladies," and gave a safety chat (exit row thing). I said nothing, but I distinctly heard her pause briefly mid-sentence, when she realised what she said. Ever the gentleman, I pretended I didn't hear, and the awkwardness washed away..
Always entertaining, I've found!
I was just mistaken for a lady at a wedding last night. My wife and I were standing in line at the bar and I was partially hidden behind the gentleman ahead of us. Before he moved, the bartender quickly asked "what can I get you ladies?" She quickly realized her mistake when I was in full view and we both laughed about it. I actually take this as a compliment, kinda think of it like my hair is really getting somewhere and I must be taking good care of it! Anyway thanks for posting this topic, keeps things fun. Take care - Rick
Hasn't happened in a while but I always got a good laugh out of it!

Used to happen to me alot when I was younger. But now that my build is becoming ever more masculine it hasn't happened to for quite some time. But then, it could be that I wear my hair diferent now than I did before.

It happens sometimes. I used to get annoyed, but it's really no big deal. Nobody would ever make this mistake unless they were behind me.
Never had it happen - but I am fairly tall
As an honest mistake, I would consider it a compliment at best, and funny at worst - would mean my hair is looking less 'awkward stage' :D
It only happened to me once, when my wife and I were visiting her family in AZ. We were out walking at dusk and we both had our hair down. A bunch of guys in a pickup truck drove by from behind and whistled and catcalled at us. I doubt they ever realized I was a guy! I was laughing all night over that one. If it happened often, I might get annoyed after a while, but right now, it would be no biggie. Mistakes do happen.
