Hey all!!
Now that i'm officialy a beach bum, loving my daily swims in the sea and all other beach activitys. I'm kinda wondering about hair washing. I only wash my hair every 4-5 days S and C. But am just thinking do i need to wash it everytime i swim, or can i just rinse the salt out. My hair does look cool when it drys from the sea it twists into long flowing ringlets. The girls love it :D I know the salt can kinda dry your hair out so.... I just don't want to damage it. Also some extreme surfers live by the Quote " The sea washes my hair" and they have flowing locks so i dunno :S Does anyone???
I surf and skimboard and find that my hair actually looks better when I come out of the ocean. Shampoos are made to ruin hair it seems.
Don't you just wish sea water was the best thing your hair could ever have. We'd have the greatest hair on earth :D
Hi Roaming Celtic
Nothing like a swim in the Ocean and it is such a great thing to do. I always loved it, that's for sure. There may be some that will refute the following advice, but here is my suggestion to be followed starting right away to save your hair as well as the reasons:
1. The salt water is very hard on the hair and with it brings in particles of sand that are abrasive.
2. Combine the salt and sand as well as strong sunlight beating down hot on your head spells for hair damage.
Solution :-)
1. Wear a bathing cap to protect all. Quite an easy fix and you STILL get as much ocean swimming as you want. If someone laughs at the cap, so what? It's your hair at risk of being ruined.....not their mouths! LOL :-)
2. Make sure to use plenty of conditioner and I would further suggest when living near salt water using a bit of spray in conditioner to help protect the hair.
OK.........put on that cap. Ready, set, GO! Have a blast in the Ocean and enjoy!
All the best-
Justin~
Lol... Justin :D
I can see me now, walking out onto a packed beach surf board under arm and 1970 rubber cap on my head.
I'll never here the end of it, if i survive!! :)
Yeah i guess it is the most effective solution but kinda takes away the fun. Also i'm still young enough to be a bit of a poser :S
I found an on beach shower so maybe when i get out, rinse my hair then and there and as you say, spray in some conditioner.
Happy Days!!
;)
I have been a competitive open water swimmer for years. When training or competing in the ocean, I wear a silicon swim cap to prevent long term damage from the salt water. The trick is to get your hair wet with fresh water, then put the cap on...if you do this, your hair will not be affected by the salt water. When i swim in the ocean just for fun, i do not wear a cap...my hair looks good after a salt water soak.
Well if you should happen to swim through and oil spill definitely shampoo that day. Garnier for oily hair would be my first choice for shampoo.
