G'day all,
I've been following along to certain threads of late, about braiding hair, and I must say I am jealous, and want to try it. But I'm unsure of what's a good length of hair with which to try it. An internet search didn't yield anything helpful for me, so I'm appealing to the collective wisdom of the board:
How long does my hair have to be in order to put it into a braid?
Currently the back reaches as far as my shoulderblades, but my fringe has only recently been able to get into a ponytail, which invariably is fairly high up my head (in line with the ears, some days)

For me, I had to wait until I had several inches of hair in a tail. Keep in mind that a braid will also consume a lot of length so you could be a bit "stubby" for a while.
One of my favourite braids and also one that I can easily do myself is the two-strand rope braid. I learned to do it from a YouTube video -

Well, it soulds like the back is long enough to braid, however it would be a short braid if you did it now. Your main problem right now though is the fringe because that is not long enough to get into the braid. Ideally, the fringe will need to be shoulder length at a minimum before it will stay in a braid at all, but even then hair that short will always find it's way out of the braid after just a short time, especially if your active. Once most of you hair is around mid back (including the fringe) You'll be good to go on all your braiding desires.
Hang in there, it seemed to take me forever before I had hair long enough to braid and for it to look somewhat decent, but in reality it wasn't all that long at all. It's been so long ago now, I can't remember just what length precisely that it all came together for me.

That's similar to my experience, although I didn't have a fringe by the time I could do a braid.
I have seen some people, almost entirely women, do a braid when their hair was only just long enough for a good ponytail, but only when their hair had been blunt cut to a very uniform length, so ironically they probably spent just as long growing it anyway.
