My grey hair is a little yellowish. I have heard claims that violet shampoo can help with this. True or is this just advertising hype?

Can't personally comment on "violet" shampoo, no experience with it.

It works to neutralize the yellow that can build up from minerals and other things in water that will stain gray/silver hair, so yeah, it helps.

I have used it before and it does work. A stylist told me that the Clairol Shimmer Lights for Grey hair works best.

Clairol Shimmer Lights works great. Follow the instructions on the bottle (leave it in for 3 - 5 mins before rinsing out) and after a few washings you'll really notice the difference.
