Ok, gents (and ladies),
Several have posted at various points in general about gels or mousses used to control flyaways and such. Have an invite to a charity reception (this Sunday nite) hosted by one of the VPs of the company I work for, so would really like to make a good impression.
Was planning to go with a braid, but tend to have a significant problem with loose hairs that don't want to play well with others. Looking for something to help keep those in place, without the "wet look" or being real stiff or sticky. Can anyone provide specific products they've had success with?
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Hi Jim, a segmented ponytail may work well for you to keep that thick mane under control. You will need 8 to 10 of them for your classic length mane. They work very well for me.

Actually, I'm looking for something to keep the top part under control. Gonna braid the rest of it. It's all the shorter hairs that won't quite stay with the braid I'm worried about.

For the short flyaways, try a bandanna, Jim. I have the same problem. No matter how long your hair gets, there is always 10 to 15 percent that does not reach the hair tie or braid. Hairs are always shedding and being replaced by new ones, and take about 2 years to get long enough to reach the hair tie or braid. I hope this solution will work for you as well as it has worked for me.

Thanks for the tip, but the occasion is dressy enough that a bandanna really wouldn't be appropriate.

Your best choice then would probably be to use gel as Matt suggested. Good luck.

Jim,
I like the product CHI Silk Infusion. It leaves a sheen on the hair and makes it feel, well, silky. It's pricey so if you want to try it, get the smallest size. It's available throu ULTRA and CVS stores.

Hey Jim,
Some of my hair is either damaged or has gotten dryer over the years so I know what you mean about those unruly wild and fuzzy hairs. I've had success with olive oil. I found it in the hair section, (not the grocery section lol) at Wal-mart.
Being light haired I only use about 4 drops on each side and apply it with my hands. I do this after every wash and I wait until it's dry.
It's easy to use too much and get a wet look. But it makes my hair feel thicker and it turns the fuzzy sections back into looping curls.

PS. My thanks to Glasseyes for turning me on to this product.
One of the best things that I have found is also the simplest. I just use the same conditioner I'd put on my hair in the washing process as a product like anyone else would use a gel or a de-frizzing agent.
Just take a little in your hands as you would any product; you can apply it to dry hair or wet hair. It really does control fly away hair, and once it dries it doesn't look wet at all.

I just tried that tonight then i read your comment. It actualy works. Looks cool too.
Hey Jim,
Try "Calm That Frizz!" by Aussie. It's EXCELLENT for that exact reason. It presses down all the fly-aways and broken hairs and leaves great shine. I hate putting styling products in my hair and this one does not make it sticky, hardened, or greasy/wet. I can't recommend it enough, it's graet for when I put my hair in a tail, keeps it managed all day.
Good luck at your event!
