Hi you longhairs. I had not been around much lately. Spring had been a bit crummy for me this year for several different reasons. The biggest event this spring is that I had a root canal and crown placement on my front tooth after I fell over on the sidewalk and broke two of my teeth last month. Nonetheless, on topic, here are pictures of my hair at 29 months.

Broken teeth and x-rays of damaged root and root canal
Around a month ago, I was excitedly running outside, tripped, fell over and landed on my face on the sidewalk. Upon landing, I had broken two of my front teeth. One of my teeth was already bonded with false material, which broke off upon landing on the ground. I was on my way to soccer practice, and I still proceeded to practice anyway. I have noticed bleeding from my gums. The broken teeth were very sensitive to the cold, however, I did not feel pain. The next day, I went to the dentist (not by appointment), and there, they looked at my teeth, said I may need a root canal since it was bleeding inside the root. They do not know for sure yet, so they have placed temporary crowns over two of my broken teeth. The temporary looked fairly real. It was a couple of hours of drilling, adjusting and such. The temporary, however, was so fat that I could not completely close my jaw. A week later, I went back to the dentist to readjust my temporary so I can close my jaw. Another week later, my permanent crowns were ready so I came back to get my temporary removed and my permanent placed. After disconnecting my temporary, the dentist decided that I needed a root canal on my very front tooth due to internal bleeding. My other tooth was okay. They permanently bounded the crown on the smaller tooth and did a temporary bond on my larger tooth knowing they have to pull it off again for a root canal. A few days later, I went back to the dentist for a root canal. They pulled off my crown, numbed the tooth area, opened up the pulp, and cleaned it out. The drill used to open my pulp had actually pulled out the nerve completely. The dentist had found out the tip of the root of my tooth had opened up during the impact (they have closed it). The cleaning process was harmless. The filling process had a bit of discomfort (mainly pressure of pressing the filler material in the root and the burning feeling of using a hot rod to fuse the filler material together).
By the way, did you guys had root canals, crowning, cavity filled, interesting dental experience, etc? If you have a dental story, please tell me.
On a different topic, this last weekend, I went to soccer regional, winning a silver medal. We are going to the state tournament at the end of the month (all soccer players go). I will have some pictures of the tournament for you to see when I come back.
Matthew
Hi Matt,
Sorry to hear about the accident with your teeth. It looks like your dentist did a nice job repairing the damage. Hopefully any discomfort following the repair has passed by now.
Congrats on your winning the silver medal at the soccer tournament!
Well I guess that can be considered the "silver lining" in a crummy Spring. :)
And, on-topic, your curly/wavy hair is looking superb!
Thanks for the update!
- Oren
Thanks Oren. Right now, my tooth still feels a tiny bit "loose". It is taking time to heal.
Matthew
the teeth look good, better than my wonky ones anyway!
nice to see SOME americans recognise the beauty of soccer, or football as we call it over here! do u follow the premier league much?
My teeth looks normal again. What does "wonky" teeth mean? By the way, I don't do major leagues in soccer. I play for Special Olympics (which is much smaller and totally different from actual Olympics like the one in Beijing in 2008).
Matthew
hairs looking great Matt! awesome waves and curls you got and I can def tell your hair is getting longer since your 2 year update keep up the great growth and happy that your teeth are better now and healing well :)
Thanks Mark. The root canal did not hurt. Even with the increased length, still some of my hair do not get into my ponytail.
Matthew
Hey, Matt. Your hair is looking GREAT! Wow. I like the curliness and it's pretty thick too. I think we have similiar hair types.
Definately keep it growing, man!
Btw. I remember you said your goal was midback... Are you going to have it all your hair at one length by trimming the layers, or what?
Hi Adam. After I reach mid-back, I am planning on doing occasional trims to keep it at mid-back. Growing out my hair is a permanent decision. By the way, had you read my tooth story?
Matthew
Wonderful update Mathew, your hair looks great. Sorry to hear about your teeth problems as I've had some crowns done and they are expensive.
Keep growing
Kevin
Thanks. I like the curls. By the way, how many crowns had you gotten?
Matthew

Your hair looks fantastic, Matthew. Do keep it growing for sure. Congratulations on your soccer victory. And finally I hope your injury to your teeth fully heals without any lasting problems.
Scott
Thanks for the statement, Scott. For soccer, I got the silver, so it is not quite a victory (a gold is a victory).
Matthew
Hi Matt,
You're really getting some fantastic length now and it's making your curls become awesome ringlets.
Sorry to hear about your teeth. I'm glad things have been fixed and you're on the mend.
Jason
Thanks Jason. I like to stop and look at my curls in my hair. As for my teeth, it still feels a bit odd after the root canal treatment, but a body has amazing capability to heal.
Matthew
Awesome hair, man! Man, you're good at making a bun, I have trouble getting an nice halftail. lol. Anyways, I had braces a few years back and to correct a massive overbite they had to pull two premolars. Unfortunately to save costs, I got my four wisdoms smashed out in the same procedure. Suffce it to say I was very sore, but I still have the premolars (and remnants of a few wisdoms, they all had to be shattered). Hope you at least to lick a few ice cream cones for your pain!
Grinning wide thanks to modern dentistry,
-Christian Epp
Thanks for the statement. Actually, to tell the truth, there was minimal pain during the entire process. I bet your dental experience was not a pleasant one. I never had to wear braises.
Matthew
Cool hair, defintely looks better down. Sorry to hear about your teeth, hope everything is ok.
Thanks. Anyway, my teeth is better, since it had been fixed and crowned.
Matthew
Hey Matthew, your hair looks great! Just one thing, if that fall and broken teeth didn't hurt much like you say, remind me to never pick a fight with you. Your one tough dude!
Daniel
Thanks for the statement, Daniel. Nevertheless, I did not feel pain in that area when I broke my tooth. I had on and off dull aches, but it is a little too weak for me to consider it painful. On the other hand, my tooth was very sensitive to the cold (and that includes mild coolness). It is not anymore, since the nerve was pulled out during a root canal. I was pretty tough during the entire process.
Matthew
It has been a while since I've even lurked - life has got my busy in other places - and having been away for a while really gives me a new perspective on just how much your hair has grown! Awesome! (Sorry about the teeth, though.)
Glad you kept on growing (unlike a few others whom I notice have cut their hair, regretted and started re-growing...again. What does Bush say? Fool me once...? LOL)
Anyway congratulations on your perseverance.
Shawn (a.k.a. Mr.Crow)
Thanks Shawn. By the way, my teeth is fixed now and I am taking better care of them. I have programmed my mind into permanently growing my hair out no matter what happens.
Matthew
Hi Matthew,
Your hair is looking real good now. Keep it growing. I'm beginning to catch up with you in length and the longer the hair gets the better it becomes.
I know all about root canals and broken teeth having been there myself. The best part is enjoying the painkillers after you have left the dentist where for a few short hours you can feel detached and "blissful". The cost always hurts but!
Yours in empathy,
Duncan
Hi Duncan. The best part of a root canal is when you walk out of the dentist's door upon completion. The root canal I had only had minimal discomfort, and that was when they were pressing in the filling material into my root. But yes, it is really expensive.
Matthew
Your hair is really coming along!! Regarding dental work believe me i know all about it. I am mid twentys but have had six crowns fitted to my front teeth and one root canal. Except for the cost which here in the uk is extortionate, there is nothing to worry about. It is not uncommon to have strange jaw action when you have the temporary crown fitted and with modern dentistry you will probably be happier with the look of your new front teeth. The drilling, shaping and fitting of the crowns were not painful just time consuming during one visit i spent three hours in the chair! the only part which can cause some discomfort is the removal of the temporary crown as he will need to exert quite some force to remove it. dental hygiene once the crowns are fitted is the most important as the gums need time to bond with the crown. Hope this put you at ease rather than make you nervous. Keep us all updated
all the best
Mat
Hi Mat. It is quite amazing that you had so many crowns and you are close to my age. In my case, the crowns were placed BEFORE I got a root canal. They had to pull my crown off (no discomfort there). There was no discomfort during the clearing phase of the root canal. There was some discomfort when they pressed down the filling and fuse it with a burning rod.
How much did it cost for you to get your teeth placed? A temporary crown for me was fat, which caused me to not close my jaw all the way so I went back to get it adjusted. My root canal was about two hours.
