Hi everyone,
first I'd like to say this seems to be a great community/board, discovered it a few months ago and lurking occasionally.
I'm 28 and perhaps a late grower. Although experimenting with various beards it took me till age 25 when I moved on my own I also decided to grow my hair. Good reasons for it, I'm an alternative person, I'm a science nerd, I'm a metalhead, I'm a hippie inside and having long hair atleast once in my life is one of those things on my "list". Does that even mix, yes! Well no, but hey!
Also, living in a small town where everyone looks the same in increasingly closedminded Netherlands (Europe) it's a good test of character.
It's comming along ok I think, hair from the top of my head is about 40cm long if I remember correctly. (pun intended) Sadly, I made the mistake of cutting up the back till the rest of my hair got longer so at the back my hair is a good 8 months shorter then it could of been. Still it's comming along ok now too and I guess a positive side is that most of my hair is at similair length when I flip it back or put it in a ponytail.
I don't have a goal length besides it being longer then it is now. I'm not blessed with a huge number of hairs (mostly because I have a small head I guess) but unless it thins too much as it gets long I don't plan on trimming for a good while. My ends seem ok so far.
I wash it 2-3x a week, comb it gently with my fingers and/or wooden hairbrush about once a week to untangle and that's it. I haven't used conditioner or oils so far, guess I should atleast try them out sometime.
It's good for character, and it made me more confident and stronger. Besides my own I've also noticed change in how others are around me. Even if they don't "get it" some do seem to respect me for it. Those that don't don't dare look/talk to me and that's great, that social filter people with beards/hair/extreme appearances and sadly even illnesses often talk about. If you are strong enough not to depend on others judgement that is only positive though, those that do stick tend to be genuine people. It's been a good experience for me so far.
These pictures were a few hours after washing, therefore lots of volume and curls and it feels like cheating.
Your statement below is so true! I call it an "idiot filter" though! ;-)>
Great hair by the way! I didn't realize the Netherlands was becoming more conservative. What next? No more fun in Amsterdam? haha.

Idiot filter does sound like a better name for it. :)
As for fun in Amsterdam (the sort of fun that draws in tourists anyway) Last year hallucinogenic mushrooms (worries me i can spell that) got illegalised after 1 fatality with misuse of alcohol, that against the thousants of deaths yearly by alcohol is a little fishy. Marihuana will likely suffer a similair faith after such a long time where a legal policy worked so well. (some of the lowest use numbers as well as less crime getting it places) I don't use drugs myself by the way, I enjoy a good beer in good company and that's it, but it does need to be legal.
The other fun (involving coloured lights) will likely also go when the possibility arrises. So I hope you guys like our clogs, they are fun!

Welcome, Twistofchaos. Your hair looks great in combination with the facial hair. (In addition to terminal length hair, I also have a terminal length beard.) Do keep it growing, and try to avoid any more trims.

I too think facial and long hair go extremely well together. So far I've not had the courage for a full beard though.

Will do, very unlikely I'll ever be a shorthair again. If people think I'm hideous with long hair, they should've seen me without and nothing to diverse attention.
Besides reading a board like this does help quite a bit on one of those bad days.
Great hair. What interests me is the waves and curls in your hair. True, hair appears a bit longer when wet for those with wavy/curly hair.
Reading your post, we have a lot similarities although I am not a metalhead myself.

Don't think I've nearly as much wave in my hair as you. In the pictures my hair was already dry but at it's most wavy, a day later it's straighter and seems slightly longer. Having really wavy hair looks great though, lots of volume although it takes long to get length.
You're not a metalhead? That's too bad because it gives the added benefit of looking forward to the Windmill Headbanging. I'm only recently able to pull off something that looks like one, and it's a great milestone. Windmill Headbanging is made of pure awesomeness and win!

I am surprised when you say that your area of the Netherlands is increasingly close-minded. In what way is that, just out of curiosity. Again welcome and your hair looks awesome.

Like in many other european places currently fascist feelings are brewing and right now an extreme-right party would be biggest according to polls. That's pretty scary. Besides that you just see people living more and more on their square meter with their stuff closing off to anything outside and different. In a small place like mine that is probably worse though, and I think I should move, just not sure where to.

Your hair and beard look great, about trimming the back I like the all the same lenght look although I haven't taken that step myself.
Try to use some conditioner, for most people here it works very well.

Trimming up the back was something I did in the beginning, to tidy up but also because I had seen that on people and it's been an experiment for me as I went along.
Een Nederlander! Die verwacht je niet. Ik kom uit het zuiden van Gelderland, land van maas en waal. Tot de knieën in de klei en erger wordt 't niet. :(

Very, very nice--the amount of wave and curl in your hair is very flattering to your appearance. Reminds me a bit of Nuttidave's.
