Hallo,
everybody. After seeing that there is not a women´s trade, I am adding mine.
First - how did I get here: looking for more info on life with a long hair I found www.choisser.com/longhair/ and from there I went here.
Second - why do I need to expose myself here at all? Well, because I wanted to express to someone that the site cited above is the best website I found on long hair at all. It contains all I wanted to know (less three small points - see below) plus a lot of new info. I read it all with a great pleasure. Many mysteries solved and new help obtained. The only and excellent info on the web. Thank you very, VERY much.
And the only three points I may add to it?
Dry ends can be conditioned with few drops of a high quality olive oil or similar. (BTW, if you can swallow few gulps of olive oil a day it will do you and your hair good as well:)
Itching head can be tapped with one or more fingers to ease the feeling (as in EFT).
You do not need to visit barbershop to get you straight hair curly. If you plait it, with time it will become weavy and last even over washings.
Third - who I am? In short: 58 F Granny. If longhair women are rare, longhair men are even more so. But a longhair Granny?
In long: All my life I was more or less shorthair with about only one longhair epizode at the age of ca thirteen. The main reason was that my hair is very thick and would not accept pins or perm. Then I became many things up to a workaholic and could not care about my hair. Those times ended February 4th in 2006 when i had my last shorthair (3 cm) cut. I am sure the need for freedom had to do with it that I could not cut my hair after that date even if I called to haidresser many times. My monthly growth is ca 1,65 mm (ca 19 cm a year) or more. Today I measured ca 50-75 cm depending on how one mesures it.
To have hair growing was really something. It is disobedient, to be found everywhere, to be cared for all the day ...
Few weeks ago I suddenly got the idea not to cut my hair never. Did I say I am a grayhair already and have to put henna on it every 10 days a bit and every 6 weeks thoroughly? The worst for the society is that I am also oveweight
I do not know how long I will last because the extralong hair problems still do await me. But for now to know about you all, your problems and positive approach helped me a lot.
Have a nice, long
hair and day.
Sandra

Hi Granny,
Welcome and thanks for posting your comments. Bill's site is a very useful tool for longhairs, has loads of interesting info.
I always encourage new growers to go there and read up on it sadly so many don't.
Again Welcome to the board Sandra glad you found us.
Kevin
Hi Sandra,
Welcome to the board!
One of the coolest things to see, in my opinion, is an woman with long gray hair. I have always loved it but you don't really see it very often.
I'm happy to hear that you've decided to let it grow. If I read your post right you have equated longhair with freedom? That's exactly how I feel as well.
Paul
Wow, thank you all so much! I was very surprised with all the positive response. First that you allow me to be here at all and second that you are so very positive. There is a lot of what I would like to share.
You may ask why with men and not with women? well, women are more ... how to put it ... sexist? Judging (I know they are - I am one and also INTJ BTW:)LOL Simply put, these are women from whom I get most of the negative comments. Actually I do not remmember any men to comment or laugh at me at all! Women use to watch other women as a competition. I do not want to compete, be "pretty" to "catch" a man with my hair. I demand that people do not judge me because of my hair (or weight). But women somehow cannot stand and oldish, overweight woman with a long hair ...
My hair mean a lot to me. Freedom - of course - it is also a freedom. Freedom to do with my hair as I please ...

Intermezzo: I have revolted already - somewhere in 1991 (being 40 then) I had my head shaven:) what an experience it was!
- - -
But I have to admit that my hair means something else to me: a borderline I am going to cross to the oficial old age stage.
I started to have gray hair very early - at 21. And from that time I use henna and it is very time consuming and tiring procedure. When my hair was shorter, it was OK. But now - it is a full day procedure:
- I mix the henna powder with water and let it rest for at least 2 hrs (that henna has to be mxed with a hot water only is a fairy tale:)
- then I put it on my hair - some 30 minutes - and cover my head
- I let it work for 6 hrs
- I wash head - 30 min
- then I let it dry by itself - up to 12 hrs!
As you can see I have to plan well ahead. It is such a hassle! I therefore decided not to colour henna when I reach the age of 60.
And , of course, I created another problem for me: how to stop using henna now, after I decided not to cut the hair at all and it had grown to this lovely lenght?
I must laugh - such a long story just about a hair ... and it is not at all ... thank you for reading it.

Hello Sandra,
Thanks for your admiration of us longhaired guys and welcome!
It is nice to see older women who do not give in to looking like the rest of "the sequined old ladies at the bingo hall".
My mother is 73 years old and still has the same thick waist-length hair she had when I was born - it is just silvery gray now.

Hi, Oren,
what a wonderfull story - I personally would be very proud if I could see and touch the hair that witnesed my birth. Your mother must be very beautifull.
I am so sorry people forgot that they have hair to grow.
P,S, Bald men are also attractive though! :)
