Hey everyone,
I was wondering if I could have everyone's opinions on whether or not I should trim my hair.
First off, I will be walking at my high school graduation on June 11th. June will mark my 2nd year of growing my hair, and I haven't gotten any trims what so ever. Do you feel a trim is necessary for such an occasion?
Basically, my hair is pretty badly damaged, with many split ends and much breakage. My hair also tangles very very easily, and every time I brush it,the tangled ends give me a little resistance.. :P.
I know that a large portion of the people here are very against trims, as am I, but mainly because I am terrified that the person trimming my hair will end up cutting WAY more off than I want. I intend to grow my hair to my waist, and I am just curious as to what you guys suggest I should do.
I'll attach the best picture I can find at the moment, but it is from January 2009, so add on 4 or so months of growth. (Also my hair was abnormally straight that day.. :P)
And I will be doing an update sometime in June, for my 2 years.. =]
Thanks,
DJ

Well, split ends certainly don't go away on their own. If you don't want to live with them, snipping them out is the only way to go about it.
Getting it trimmed is entirely up to you, though. I'd say if you're leaning toward the trim, go for it. You're young enough that an inch or two isn't going to hurt you nearly as much as it would us old guys. (Can't believe I'm saying this at 23. :p)
I would say get about 1 or "maybe" 2 inches off of the bottom so that the layers near your shoulders can catch up. Bring a ruler or tape to show the stylist what 1 or 2 inches really is. Schedule a follow up trim for sure. I suggest June of 2013 when you are walking for your college graduation.
LMFAO!

In the photograph it looks brilliant BUT if you find there are some damaged ends and you have someone you can trust who understands the meaning of the words 'half an inch only' then go for it. This however has nothing to with graduation whatever, merely timely maintenance of your hair.
Hi there,
I would say your hair looks in great condition. My only advice would be only let someone that you really know and trust if you are think or tidying up the ends. We get so many stories of wow in the past.
Cheers,

Hi DJ,
Judging from your pic I'd say your hair looks rather healthy and that the ends don't look all that damaged. What you may want to try first before considering a trim is to apply a very small amount of jojoba oil to the ends.Be careful not to overdo it as your hair will get too oily looking afterwards.Generally I would apply the oil directly on my wide tooth comb and then brush it near the ends to distribute it.Don't need all that much but that should help with the snagging when you do brush.I'm sure there are other methods but this has helped me in the past.Keep us posted my friend.Cheers:)

Mon cher DJ,
If this is an accurate picture you need do nothing, Nada. Nichts.
There are name brand de-tangling conidtioners, but I have found an expensive one at Sally's beauty supply chain -- they are everywhere.
If you wish your graduation to be more formal, you might cinsider a braid, or a special clasp. I use Celtic clasps, which I considere very masculine. Check my photo using a clasp.
If you think you have split ends, then follow the advice of others on this board, and trim off 1/2 inch increments, or go to a stylist, and take a tape mneasure and tell him/here than if she/ he takes off more than one inch, you will not pay but sue.
