is the sun bad for my hair? I was out by a pool yeterday and tucked it up under my hat the best i could but with it being mid back length is was hard to keep it all under... was just interested to see if others try to keep there hair out of the sun. I am letting it grow to terminal lenght so want to keep it in best condition i can. thanks Long hair Scott
I have heard that sun makes your hair grow longer. Hair evolved to protect your scalp from the sun, so logically it should thrive with sunlight. Possibly like a chia pet? ha.
SUN DOES NOT MAKE HAIR GROW FASTER, NOR DOES TRIMMING WITH OR WITHOUT A FULL MOON. Having said that...
The best way to protect your hair and put it out of your way is with a BUN. Afte 8 years of experience there is nothing better than that. At midback length when straight, my hair holds up in a bun perfectly (For short lengths it's not a possibiity) Ideal for the beach, sports, sleeping.... you name it. It's even stylish and works great now that summer is coming.
If you don't know how to do one go to any information page or check personally with me or any of the other very experienced, wise and nice long timers in the member's directory.
WITH OR WITHOUT A FULL MOON.
Lol :D
Yup ya gotta love the trimmers :D
Sun does to your hair what bleach does to your hair, only really, really slowly. It lightens it and it damages it.
The sun damages hair. The sun is good for hair. Ah it's the case of too much good is worse than none at all. The sun is good for nutrition, and the better our nutrition the better our hair is. However, direct sun exposure to our hair for long periods of time and/or frequently will cause damage to occur. In 'most' cases this takes years to make itself evident. Just keep your hair well conditioned and you should do fine. Personally I keep mine in braids because with the braid at least some of your hair is sheltered from the sun. (That, and I just like braids.) Bunning it or wearing a protective cover is good as well. In a recent thread was a mention of a ponytail scrub which was a reference to a several months old thread about protecting your hair while riding a motorcycle, that probably would be the best thing to do.
At any rate, the pool is most likely more damaging to hair than the sun is for most people (this would depend on how often, for how long a person is out in the sun) I am personally out in the sun quite alot when I'm off of work, I pretty much hang around some kind of water. (Pool, lake, river) So I tend to be in and out quite a bit when it's warm enough to get in. Although I've never tried to protect my hair from the sun specifically, (simply because it really isn't all that feasable since I'm in and out of the water alot) I do find that braids do help in the damage prevention department.
