hi!
maybe it doesn't really make any sense to think about this, but anyway i can't avoid doing so... i'm 24 right now and i started growing my hair out about 11 months ago, when i was still 23. lately i've been wondering if it could be a bit "too late" to grow it, as it might not be at its best when it's already long. i don't know what you think about this: do you think there's an "ideal" age to grow one's hair out? some weeks ago i read a thread where a 25-year-old guy said he might be a "late grower" and this kinda worried me. do you think there's anything to be worried about?
sorry for this probably childish question, i just wanted to know other people's thoughts about this.
thanks for everything!
néstor
There is no 'ideal' age or even wrong age. Why on earth should that even be relevant other than those who lose their hair sadly. I had long hair in my teens and early twenties and whilst never having had short hair reverted to a pony tail in my fifties.
Circumstances can sometimes intervene- jobs and, heaven forfend, military service bu hopefully those influences will diminish as the world becomes more accepting of individuality.
24 is way too old to grow hair lol.
Hello néstor,
You are about the same age and the same progress as me. I think you are at an ideal time to grow your hair out! Yes, there are many people that get an early start in high school/university, but many of those people are not "longhairs for life" so to speak. They are likely to change their minds about their hair.
Stubborn parents who threaten their sons for trying to grow long hair force many to wait until they are living on their own (usually early 20s). This was my situation, so I couldn't even start growing until I was 23 even though I wanted to earlier.
There are plenty of guys on this board who started growing their hair at age 40,50 or even older. From what I've seen, their hair looks amazingly healthy for that age. So there is no "ideal" age to start growing. The one thing to be aware of is that your hair will thin somewhat and grow to a shorter terminal length as you age, but if you take good care of it,
this will be less of a problem.
I think the most important thing is to not worry about something you can't change (your age). Just grow your hair out with lots of care and dedication and I guarantee you'll be more than satisfied!

I didn't start growing my hair until I was 26 and have had no issues. Now I'm 42 going on 70. (feels that way sometimes)

I don't think if there is an objective time schedule in doing whatever you like. I know a woman, 10 years older than me and divorced, who is planning to start to go to a college. There are no real limits, except for the socially imposed ones. Plus, the general rule is that men who grow their hair from very early youth more often tend to cut it and never return to the habit again. Slow riping is the most promising one, at least for the majority of things.
I don't think there's an "ideal age". I'm 45 and started growing 3 years ago. I'm well established in my career, have a wonderful, caring, patient wife and two great teenaged children.
Certainly this has been a good time for me.

Hi néstor,
I could name at least 3 regular posters right off the bat who didn't start growing their hair until they were almost twice your age.
After a 4 year stint in the army I grew my hair back out at 24. The only thing I can see different is maybe it grows out faster when your younger. Other than that there's not much differance.

Hey Paul, I am one of those. I started seriously growing my hair at age 39, and the results speak for themselves at age 56. (See the recent photo above.)

Well, since there is no way to go back in time, if you want long hair all you can do is start from here. The "could-have-been" is pointless to consider. You can't know anyway what your hair would have been. It's never too late to do anything unless you're dead. The only hitch is that one's hair grows more slowly as he ages. The best attitude to long hair I think is that, however it turns out when grown, it's not as much a thing of getting and having what you want as much as it is wanting what you have.
....is while you are still breathing.
nuff said!
I didn't start growing my hair out until I was over 30 and very happy with the results.
Cheers,

Hi néstor,
I started re-growing mine from a "#2 all over" at age 40.
Welcome to the board and happy growing!

39 years old. My hair is currently over 3 feet long at age 56. See the photo, from about a month ago. Max, who's hair is quite long, is standing next to me on the left. Yes, my hair is actually that long. Other members here who have met in in person will vouch for that.
You are certainly young enough to have a super long mane before you turn 30. Go for it for sure, and do come here for support in growing your mane to the length you desire. We are here to help.
Good luck Néstor, and welcome to MLHH.

An impressive photo, guys !
If it's something you really want to do, do it now Néstor, no one is promised a tomorrow. I wanted to start growing mine out at about 14 yrs. old, I'm now 53 and am about 3 yrs. into my growth. Do it while you can.
I began growing my hair out at the age of 52. If that 25 year old guy is a late grower, I guess I am a mummy.
It's only too late if you believe it is.
Started growing mine at almost 40, and it's down to about my tailbone now, so no worries.
