Hey guys, every morning when i wake up my hair is pretty tangly and i have to devote a few minutes to finger detangling it (more or less depending on how much i was tossing and turning last night), and my bangs are not quite long enough to put in a ponytail (maybe 2 or 3 months and ill be there heh)
I cannot detangle my hair as some people can with conditioner or water, in fact, when my hair gets wet it becomes very stiff and hard, it does not move around very much, and runnning a comb through it is impossible without ripping it.
Wanted to hear some alternative methods to detangling hair if you guys use any, and also feel free to tell whether ponytails seem to keep your hair from getting tangly overnight.

Iv Started useing a wide tooth comb for a Problem Similar to this
hi ryan,
i find a couple of things help me detangle my hair:
basically anything that gives my hair slip -- misting my hair with moisture spray (veg. glycerin + water) or a good botanical conditioner (aubrey organics, aussie moist, tresemme, trader joe's nourish spa). also i find finger-parting my hair into 4 sections & then gently combing from ends to roots helps as well.
since you said ypur hair doesn't like water or conditioner, you could also try an oil instead, like olive or jojoba. apply, then comb in small sections from tips to roots.
once your hair is detangled you should also try leaving a little oil or conditioner in as a leave-in (dime to quarter-sized amount) and tying or braiding your hair up at night (i sleep in a stocking cap:). this will also help keep tangles at bay.

Hi Ryan,
If it's one thing that I've learned from reading this board over the past 5 or 6 years, it's that everybody's hair is different, --- especially re. what hair products work for one person doesn't always work for somebody else!
Having said the above statement, though, there are indeed a few helpful techniques that diffinitely apply to all longhairs universally. Here's one of them: when detangling, most people start with finger-combing, first; but, even more importantly, starting with working on detangling the ENDS of the hair, and then gradually working your way up towards the scalp. The worst thing you can do is to take a comb and simply rip through your hair as if it was short. Instead, gently work through untangling the lower half of your hair, first. If your hair is exceptionally long, then start with the lower third or even more towards the ends (depending on its length). Once the lower portion of your hair is free of tangles, then move up to work on the middle section of your mane. Once you are able to run a comb or brush smoothly from scalp to ends in one smooth stroke, you are done with the detangling...
Good luck!
