I frequently get positive comments or at least a big smile from the ladies that I come in contact with when they see my braids. (alot more so than if I'm in a single braid or a pony tail) I noticed today that several guys would just look at me as though they didn't know just what to think about a guy with two braids coming towards them. These guys didn't acknoledge me at all, just kept looking at my braids until we passed each other. I almost wonder just what was going through their minds, but maybe I don't want to know. Anyway, that got me to thinking about a comment a friend of mine made to me a few weeks ago.
He said, "Daniel, I really like the way you have your hair in the two braids. The way it's done makes it look well cared for and not half matted like most long haired guys I see."
This was not a statement dissing any longhair at all for their chosen style, he was mearly saying that he thought the double braids were superior to most long hair styles. For the most part I agree (I know, you all are shocked to hear that), but with few exceptions, I do think that the french braid is even better in most situations.
You know, your double braids really are very awesome. I like them too. Those guys were probably jealous. And you look like a big beefy guy in this picture especially -- most guys would probably be scared to say anything anyhow!
You know I guess you might be right about other being scared of me, although I've never concidered myself as a big guy by no stretch of the imagination. However, just last month on a camping trip while laying in my tent with my children trying to get some sleep I overheard a friend of mine say to another that was pretty tipsy and getting loud,
"You better keep it down, if that baby wakes up Daniel will come out of that tent and clear out the entire campground!"
"Who's Daniel?"
"Thats that really big guy with the braids."
"Oh."
Now mind you I'm 6'2" and about 225# I wear an x-large T-shirt with some room in the chest, more room the further down you go although I do have some love handles that I really want to get rid of. So I never thought of myself as an especially big guy, but if I have that presence about me then, well I guess it is a good thing. LOL
Yes, they are awesome Daniel, well done!
Matt's right, there ain't anybody going to mess with ya!
Bruce
Thanks for the comment, but you all are going to give me a big head by telling me that. lol
Daniel
I think it's a cool style, the looks are probably because its an unconventional approach to wearing long hair.
And Bruce you're a dead ringer for my drawing teacher here at FloArts in Florida!

I like your braids and you remind me of Snoop Dogg with that beard and the braids. :D
It's a compliment,eh! I'm a big Snoop fan.
Um, okay. I'll just take your word for it.
I agree, it's definitely a compliment.
I like that "Willy Nelson" style as well, sometimes I just wear one braid on the side.
I really hope my hair can get waist length because a braid that long, in my opinion, is the coolest longhair style.
I like to tell my short haired friends that I'm gonna grow it to my waist, braid it, then put a large fish hook in the end. Then when they pop off, I'll flip my hair around and catch 'em in the ear with that it. heehee.
Sometimes it takes a moment for them to realize I'm joking.

Yeah. Fish hook, broken glass, piece of bone...it all works well. LOL
Daniel
