For the next 2 hrs WWUH.ORG is streaming metal. I've listened to it for a couple of weeks and although I'm more into prog rock, Sam Hatch puts on a killer show. It's a good listen.

Thanks for the alert, im listening to it right now, metal is by far my favorite genre of music, and i enjoy listening to all genres of it except for Gothic and Black metal, every now and then there is a diamond in the rough song for those genres for me but they are few and far between.
On the topic of metal now, i have been listening to metal for about a year and a half now, i first started to listen to metal through the bands All That Remains, Bullet For My Valentine, and Killswitch Engage, and gradually expanded my list of metal bands i love listening to.
I would say my personal favorite subgenres of metal are Death and Thrash in that order, with some of my favorite bands in those genres being (in no apparent order of importance)
Death: Arch Enemy, Hypocrisy, At The Gates, Necrophagist
Thrash: Testament, Metallica, Megadeth, Kreator, Slayer
I however enjoy listening to bands/artists more along the lines of "Progressive Rock/Instrumental Rock" such as Steve Vai, Dream Theater, Joe Satriani, Gary Hoey, G3, etc
I go through phases where i like different forms of metal more, ive had metalcore phases, folk metal phases, etc, but i always keep coming back to Thrash and Death genres XD.
Like to hear about the rest of your metal preferences/opinions.
Ah, damn, missed it. Though I can safely say they wouldn't play anything I listen to, heh.
Heh yeah, they were playing some pretty light stuff like Iron Maiden and i heard a little bit of slayer as well before i went to bed i believe.
Ah, only mainstream friendly bands... urgh, where's the good underground stations that play some Metal that has captured the essence of the old, true spirit? Not Metal that is billboard chart friendly. People who run those radio shows tend to know nothing about true metal, only stuff that has one million record sales. Simple bands where you just scratch the surface easy and there's no meaning to them, there's nothing inside... Just generic words and notes with a label on it. Sure Iron Maiden and Slayer had their days but now, they are t.e.r.r.i.b.l.e. Slayer doesn't even play Thrash Metal anymore, I want some Hell Awaits-ish material, not some pop rock sound found today on their records. I miss the old school, but alas, some scenes keep the true spirit alive. Hail the Finnish!!!

Heh, so what bands would you want to listen to then?
Of which genre exactly?
Any, i really dont care, just think, if you had to choose lets say 10 bands to listen to, for about a month, what bands would you choose.
If you dont like this method then make your own method of telling me what bands you like, i dont really care.
Death Metal: Abhorrence, Funebrarum, Stench of Decay, Slugathor, Autopsy, Dead Congregation, Dismember, Hatespawn (ger).
Thrash Metal: Violator, Fueled by Fire, Warbringer, Töxik Death, Deathhammer, Mantic Ritual.
Doom Metal: Acid Witch, Electric Wizard, Hour of 13, Conspirators of the Occult.
You said you don't listen to Black Metal, so I'm not gonna waste my time with that. That's the genre that's the most dear to me though.
There you have it.
Sadly i only have listened to Dismember and Warbringer out of all those, and i like those bands very much, but im sure the longer i listen to metal the more bands i will have heard, only going on about a half year of actively listening to metal bands, and was only even first exposed to metal bands a year and a half ago.
It's good you could identify a couple. I've been into Metal for years, it's my life, I'm sure you'll go on to know many bands. I suggest you don't look to the mainstream bands, check out the underground scene, much much better stuff.
Heh, im just checking out everything atm, i didnt honestly even know about metallica or megadeth really until last December, so im definitely a metal newbie, but i really do love it and i believe i will be a longhair and "metalhead" for life, no other music genres appeal to me anywhere close to as much as metal does (unless they employ the use of shredding the electric guitar like Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteem, or Joe Satriani, Jason Becker, etc)
One things for sure, back in january when i got my hair last cut, which i really beat myself up after, it was like a 2 inch trim or so and i got pretty depressed for a little while afterwards, thats when i first stumbled upon this site via the "On Being a Longhair" guide, and i sure did miss being able to headbang with my hair, i mean i still sort of could but it just wasnt nearly as much.
Dont worry though im staying away from those scissors!
Yes, I despise mainstream anything! Most of the stations in this state play the same old crap over and over. God how many Stairways to Heaven can there be?!
I have to admit that I am new to metal and have tin ears to boot, but I think there may have been some stuff earlier in the show that may be considered less "main stream". I think the show sticks in some of the main stream stuff, as requests, but it's still better than anything in my area.
Here's some of the music played earier:
Dead By Wednesday, Cavelera Conspiracy, Sepultura, System of a Down, Pantera, Lamb of God, Gojira, Neardark, Sever the Drama, Killswitch Engage
Monday night's show - Dawn of Kaos is probably a little more "Hellish" with the exception of Johnny Winters (Johnny Winters!!!) The line up was:
Nofx, Wolves In The Throne Room, Mastodon, Meshuggah, Lamb of God, Napalm Death, Kingdom of Sorrow, The Haunted, Vio-lence, Goatwhore, Leftover Crack, Skinny Puppy, God Forbid, Cannibal Corpse, Drowned Youth, High On Fire, The Perennial, Obscura, Kataklysm, Johnny Winter
KGRG has a show called "Late Nite Death" but the stream is rather low quality and I stopped listening to it.
Do you have any suggestions of where I can find good streams for metal and the like?
Bruce
Sorry, I don't know any stations that broadcast underground stuff. I mostly stick to my vinyl collection, hah. Maybe try Google?
