Ok I grew my hair out for oh 7 months in was long but since my hair is really wavy or partially curly it was maybe an inch below my ears. I was going to keep growing it out until it pulled itself down but with all of the comments and pressure and putting up with my afro puff i cut it!REALLY SHORT! 1/2 inch to an inch im starting a band ( rock neometal) and i wanted that adam jones look from tool but i wondered if using a HAIR IRON to straighten my hair would do anything and how long it would keep it straight if that would be the answer to my problems i would grow my hair out again.....PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Sorry to hear you cut your hair :(. A straightening iron would keep your hair straight till you washed it again (I think).
orange is right...a straightening iron (often called a flat iron) would have kept it straight....i use one now, and it is one of the best things to come along as far as i am concerned in a loooong time.
unless you are able to accept your hair as it behaves long, I don't think you will find any secrets to straightening it out. Heat irons will just dry it out and make it in poor condition. Part of the pleasure of having long hair is how easy it is to care for. If you get bogged down to a routine of relaxers and irons and blowdrying, I don't think you will enjoy it very much. I do know some stylists that will put a perm solution in your hair and comb it out straight, leave it and rinse. Perms tend to damage hair too. go for the natural approach. Not every one on earth is suited to long hair, and sadly for you short may be your best bet.
hey mental!
i MUST disagree with "girl opinion." i know that *some* straightening irons will dry your hair out, and they can certainly damage it..particularly if used improperly...BUT, not all the time. *I* have been using one for almost a year now...my hair is NOT dry and it is not damaged. i am very careful when using it, and use conditioner regularly, as well as a leave-in conditioner. blow drying is rare...compliments are not.
so, i reiterate what i said before...you can use a flat iron...you just gotta be careful...once i straighten my hair with a flat iron, it is straight for the week...unless i am in a tremendous amount of humidity.
AND I DISAGREE WITH YOU lol
one year old hair will not show the damage, one year old hair is a baby compared to what I'm talking about! Let me start by saying if you plan to grow LONG hair, and I mean LONG hair, think of it as OLD hair, because that is what it becomes. If you want to have healthy OLD hair, stay away from any and all heat products. If you are just planning on a constant length of say shoulder with regular trims then you probably will be fine and not notice the damage. But if you want to have your hair reach lengths of midback/waist or longer STAY AWAY FROM ANY AND ALL HEATING devices, chlorine, prolonged sun exposure etc. You can consult with any professional in the field and they will tell you the same thing. Some people don't mind fried hair, I myself prefer to have healthy shiny hair with lots of body and NO FRIZZ and I also enjoy my over 3 feet of length. I'm sure there are some long hairs out there that can jump in on this and confirm that HEAT IS A NO NO.
I tend to agree with the person you disagreed with.
I've used a hair straightening tool (hair iron if you wanna call it that) for a very long time. At one point, I had hair nearly to my waist, and it was all healthy and healthy looking.
What it comes down to is how you take care of your hair outside of using a heated tool. The heat is applied for only a few minutes. If your hair is properly conditioned you'll be okay. I know this from YEARS of experience.
My hair is still about halfway down my back. I cut it a little shorter out of choice. Waist length gave me too many problems.
Use a deep conditioner, leaving it in for 30 minutes twice a week; use a leave-in daily, and take care of your hair and using a straightening tool won't be bad. At least for me it's been that way.
I do agree on chlorine and swimming, etc. That's bad! Use a swimming cap. It looks dorky, but when you're finished swimming, your hair is okay!

It only looks dorky if you wear the cap away from the pool. ;-)
