Hey guys.
Not much to say.
I still have my hair. LOL. Though I find myself wearing it in a bun more often now than I am wearing it loose.
On 1 hand it makes me question why bother having it if I always wear it in a bun.
And then on the other hand, well, I don't really want to cut it. LOL
But I have been wearing this style at work for a few weeks now with no problems.
I tend to prefer this to wearing a long ponytail because, maybe I'm paranoid, but I think with a long ponytail, it tends to attract more attention, like "Damn, that's a long ponytail", whereas with a bun, the hair doesn't seem to stick out as much?
Granted, it's an unusual hairstyle for a guy, but it just doesn't come across to me as being 'feminine'. Perhaps it's missing the pink hairsticks and scrunchi. LOL
Anywho, here are a few pics I took. The quality is crappy, but my goal was not to get into GQ with these pics, lol, but display how I wear my bun.

I think it looks good, although your "why bother having long hair if I do this all the time" comment reminded me a bit of a couple of women that I've known, with quite long hair, who ALWAYS wore their hair up. I asked one of them about it, and got the answer, "putting the hair up protects it." Who knew?

I have now started wearing my hair in an updo on days when it is very windy or wet to better protect my 17 months old hair. As I have fine hair that is prone to split ends and breakage & therefore fragile - I do it to prevent minimise the damage. Also the acne on the nape of my neck along the rear hairline has almost cleared up now and I attribute this to allowing the neck to "breathe" with direct sunlight on it. Been able to restrain most of your hair while working is wonderful. I do enjoy looking shorthaired under a beanie hat! It can be fun to be a longhair incognito.

One of the great things about long hair is the option to wear it in many different styles. The bun is easy , neat and business like, entirely appropriate for the work/office environment. There is nothing wrong with wearing a bun. It also gives that contrast for evening /social situations when a down do or half tail, braids, half pony. etc provide a nice contrast. One style all the time is a bit boring.

Alexander, your hair looks great as usual. How do you secure the bun, just a hair tie? When I try doing that, the ends always fray out everywhere... I have pretty thick hair so it might be that. I'm a few inches short of waist length. Anyway, cool pictures!

Well, the key is, to do the bun right after showering, or when your hair is wet.
Otherwise, it will look huge and not as neat, imo.
I use 2 hair tyes.
1 to secure the base (as if I was doing a ponytail), Then the 2nd one after I loop around the tail and it goes over it.
I must admit, I'm surprised it holds myself. LOL
Well I've done my hair in a bun what it's dry and not had problem and looks fine. Always good if you want to have a show on a not hair wash day. Will all these humid temps these days the bun is great investment.
Cheers,

Looking good - very Librariany. I've worn mine in a bun at work now for over a year. You're right - it attracts much less attention. I have it loose on the way home (I tend to be the last person out) and on the weekends. The rare times that people do see it down it comes as a surprise to them how long my hair actually is.

Hi Alexander,
I really like this style. The way you have it twisted about makes it very interesting like a geometric puzzle or a three dimensional Celtic knot pattern. I don't see anything feminine about it. Anyone who would has a severe need for some optical equipment.
That is kind of the mini-paradox: why have long hair if you're just going to keep it "up" all the time? I don't know the answer, but I tie my hair back or do something similar that I call the "doubled tail" whereby I pull the hair only half way through the tie on the last turn and end with a sort of loop. Maybe it's the best of both worlds: you have your hair long at your leisure and functionally out of the way at work or intense play. If it were short, then it'd just be short all the time, no? Haha!
It looks good to me and very conservative too. The beard goes very well with your hair.

I've been reading the posts about the bun for awhile now, but I could not envision just how it would look (outised of a high bun that I am used to seeing the ladies wear) Thanks for posting.

Hey now - I am a (male) librarian and that is how I wore my hair at work for a couple of years before cutting it off...the reason I cut was the bun eventually led to tangles which led to dreadlocks (my hair is very curly). Anyway, people would often get a chuckle out of the bun/my career : )
Looks very cool, btw, and I miss mine...I am working on growing it out again (I'm at about 7") so hope to be back soon.
