Today it seem like everybody was noticing my hair. Since school was out today I went down to my Grandma's and I just put on a hat. First while we were at Hardee's my grandpa came up to me and said something like "You need to cut that back, I got some shears at the house" I'm used to him talking about my hair so that didn't bother me. Then when we ran into my aunt she noticed my hair. She goes; "Your growing out your hair" She didn't act like that was good or bad. But she had seen me a couple times in January. The front and sides are down past my ears and the back is just to my shoulders. That just now occured to her?!?!?!?!??! Then we were at the mall the guy at the cash register says "I used to have longhair, down past my shoulders. Back then you were sissy if you had longhair. I got into a lot of fights about it." Then my grandma said something and he said "I like it; looks good." So I walked away today feeling pretty good about my hair. First of all comments (especially from total strangers) is rare and I don't really consider it long yet but obviously other people do. Which is good.
You're going through one of the early stages of growing long hair. Every guy goes through it. People, especially relatives, are used to you looking a particular way and the change is a little unsettling to them. And you tend to look more like you "need a haircut" during the grow-out period. Once you've reached a long style that looks good on you and if you keep it looking good, such comments will probably stop. You have to let people get used to your new look-- and look great.
You know, it's funny, I had the same thing happening. At different times, I ran into two girls I know who I hadn't seen in a while. One just said confusingly, "Wow, you're growing your hair out," but it was entirely indiscernable if she meant it as a good or bad thing. The other girl I ran into actually gave me my first compliment on it, saying right off, "You really look a lot better with your hair longer, you should keep it like that." Now that one took me by surprise, since I personally think it still looks like ass, closest to a half gelled down frizzy mullet. But hey, it still made me feel good.
Hey man
That's good that you dont let it bother you. I have to put up with the same stuff. It really gets old sometimes.
Isn't it amazing how many people offer their opinions (usually negative) without you even asking them?
The nerve..
