Hello all you kind, hairy people (even you recently "clipped" ones - LOL);
Apologies for my being this late to respond...
Many thanks to all of you who were able to comment on my recent 9 year update, --- I greatly appreciate it!!!
Let's see, several of you had some questions, while a few others just had some memorable comments. Here's my best attempt at answering the Q's and adding my comments onto yours (in no special order)...
to: Scott (Absalom) and Kevin C -
OMG, Scott, you have accomplished what women have tried in vain to do to me for YEARS: you have turned me STRAIGHT!!!!!!! I *never* thought it could be done; and, yet you, of all people, have done it, --- and even made it look so easy (LOL)!!
Thanks, Kevin, for mentioning (& clarifying) Scott's amazing accomplishment, --- I don't think Scott was completely aware its full significance until you pointed it out (lol)!!
to: Daniel R -
Re. keeping one's chin up (AKA "cheating" - LOL): no worries, as I do that all the time! (In fact, if I bend my head forward nowadays, I can honestly say that my hair is "knee-length" - lol)...
And thanks also for the nice comments!
to: Walter White Tail -
Re. your question, "Is it still growing or has it reached terminal?" My answer to that Q. is: I *believe* it's still growing (although seems to have s l o w e d down to a crawwwwwl). Just when I think it won't grow anymore, a month or 2 later I notice that it has, --- go figure!
to: Jason -
Thanks so much for your kind comments! Re. getting more length (especially aiming for terminal), I found that as I was willing to stop having professional hair trims, and instead replacing them with using the "Search & Destroy" method of removing the individual split ends, I've been able to gain a little more length that way. My guess is that you can probably get more length than myself, because, judging from your past pics, I don't see much taper to your ends (plus you are also younger than me)...
Happy growing!
to: Matt B -
Congrats on reaching your 3-year mark!!! Are we going to see any pics soon? And thanks for your nice comments, as always!
to: Duncan -
I will do my best to get a pic of my hair next time w/ the GG Bridge in the background... and to have FLOWERS in my hair (LOL)!!
to: David N -
Many thanks (as always!) for your kind comments, --- and I definitely hope to meet you when you do make it out to the West Coast!
to: Mark (Hairball) -
Thanks as always, --- and so glad you got to meet David N! Let's talk on the phone soon, if it works for you....
to: Chris A -
Thanks so much for the very kind comments, --- and so glad you like my white hair... Something tells me that Santa Claus is going to be extra-nice to you this year (LOL)!!!!
to: Matt M -
I'm not sure if I'm quite at terminal length yet; but, looks like I'm at least CLOSE to it!
to: Panurge -
I agree 100% with your comments on "denial"... Thanks so much for your great reply!!
to: ChrisG -
Thanks for your nice comments, --- and your humoration, too!! It's so nice to have you back here (and my apologies for not writing a response to you sooner)... Take care, my friend!
to: longhairedone
Thanks, Steve, for your generous & kind comments, --- and I hope your own hair farming is going well, too!!
to: jonalbear -
Even says hello, too!! And I'm so glad to hear that Bill & Larry made it out this year to visit you guys. I greatly hope to meet you and John S someday... Are you planning a visit to SF anytime soon? The pics I occasinally see you share of the Great Lakes area makes me home-sick for the Midwest. Oh, well, --- I'll get over it!
Thanks also for your kind comments, --- I much appreciate it!
to John B -
Thanks for your nice reply, --- and, yes, I am indeed a little "tilted" (lol)!!
and last but never least, to: Angel (our wonderful token female!) -
You certainly know how to make a guy feel good! Thanks so much for all your kind comments!!
ALSO, to VJ and Oren - Thanks again for your replies (which I already responded to directly underneath your comments).
Did I miss anybody? I hope not, --- and please let me know if I did!!
- Ken
I forgot that I had one more recent pic to share from that trip down the coast that my partner & I took w/ Bill & Larry back in May. It's of me, "keeping my chin uP" (or, more accurately: tilting my head BACK - lol)....
Enjoy!!
- Ken in SF
Man Ken you do have the coolest hair color and texture, it so belongs to the beach and the sun in your fantastic picture. I really would love some California time, hopefully sometime I can visit out that way and fall in love with the place as more and more people here seem to do. Just what is your influence there anywyat? :)
Take care Ken and don't work TOO hard!
Thanks so much, Chris! I guess my hair is rather "sand" colored these days (lol)....
Yeah, Calif. is a rather unique place to visit, and even moreso to move to (as I did back in '77). Since I was born & raided in the Midwest (Chicago, IL area), as well as had relatives on my mother's side onthe East Coast (Hartford, CT area) that I visited every year as a kid, my first visit out West during the late '60s was like visiting another planet. Moving to SF when I was 24 was even more of a shocker: to me, the seasons seemed "reversed" (cool & foggy in the summer; mild & rainy during winter). The native grass on the surrounding hills didn't green up until January, --- and then by late May, everything turned all brown (or, as the tourist industry would say, "golden!" - LOL). But, for all its weirdness (both in its natural climate & vegetation, and "otherwise" - lol), it has some spectacularly beautiful aspects, --- and, yes, I have fallen very much in love with this state [of mind, as well as of the US]...
I hope you make it out here sometime!
Take Care,
Ken
PS - The pic included here was taken near a friend's house up in the coastal mountains between the No. Calif. towns of Ukiah and Mendocino. Ukiah gets BAKING hot (frequently in the 90s and 100+ temps) in the summer, because sufficiently inland to not get much summer fog. Mendocino, on the other hand, stays in the cool 50s and 60s all summer long, because it's right on the ocean (which has a cold current that comes down from Alaska). The drive between the 2 towns is only about an hour and a half, --- and yet you can experience a good 30 degree difference in temperature! In the foreground of this pic, you can see the "golden" color of the native grass (lol).... Thank goodness Northern CA has a lot of redwood trees, --- otherwise, our summer hills would have the same ugly brown look of Southern CA!
It is actually more of a beige to grey-beige (late in the dry season) than brown. And early in the season, it does have a golden tinge (especially in the right light). ;)
For me, it does have a certain grandeur of its own. Not ugly.
Then, for me, after growing up in the Big Green of the East Coast, I find the variety of not-all-green to be fascinating.
Very good points there, Trolleypup. Actually, the truly "ugly" part of Southern CA has more to do with the smog and over-population, --- and the unsustainability of all those swimming pools and irrigated lawns in a climate that naturally is supposed to be more desert-like.
In late afternoon or early morning, the CA hills (whether Southern or Northern) can indeed look absolutely "golden!" Too bad the majority of the time I look up at them happens to be mid-day (LOL)....
Thanks for your input! I hope you are well, and still enjoying your favorite sushi restaurant!

If I had a house with a swimming pool, I'd collect rainwater in it and turn it into a cistern. You know that ancient city of Petra? It's desert too; but allegedly they supplied all their water needs with rainwater collection on the hard rock surfaces, and cisterns. The climate may have been a bit more humid there at the time; but still it's impressive.
There is also an interesting bit about the cistern in (I hate to say this) GWB's ranch house, which is a model of environmental efficiency and has been contrasted with Al Gore's energy gobbling mansion. Definitely that one comes out of the "strange but true" file.
WOW, Steve, I had no idea, as I'd never heard that before... Definitely very, "strange but true!", --- go figure!!

I haven't been keeping up and only saw this now, so, I'll just say, "Much obliged!"
