With the return of warm weather (actually, blistering hot would be a better description), my shedding rate is up sharply. Many of us noticed the same thing a little over a year ago. If I recall correctly, Absalom started last year's thread after shedding an incredible amount of hair. The higher shedding rate must have something to do with the onset of summer and/or the longer days.
I guess it would make sense that we shed in the summer. Dogs and cats do maybe were still wild enough that its in our genes to shed.
It would make sense too that were the only ones who notice it since short hair isnt seen as often, and wont tangle together on the floor.
Just thought of this. i guess its one of those things that just 'click' and seem obvious when you think about them.

Yeah, I think I lost maybe 15% of my hair. I immediately checked to see what vitamin supplements may cause excess shedding. I was taking glucosamine/chondroitin which I stopped taking. I take MSM now which is good for hair as well as joints. I was taking 25,000 units of vitamin A per day. I only take that every 4th day and 2500 on the 3 days in between. That is 32,500 IU / 4 days which is 8125 per day average. With vitamin A being oil soluable I can get away with doing this.
I also added biotin to fight the shedding. To save money I buy the 5 mg capsules and empty out the contents and divide it into 5 or 6 doses. With 5 doses it is 333% of RDA, and for cheap.
I keep a spreadsheet on how much hair I shed. I use a default value of 80% of the shed hair being recoverable for weighing. After weighing and entry to the spreadsheet I put the hair in my "hair coffin". See photo.
Yeah, I am obcessive compulsive regarding my hair. Those of us who have Aspergers tend to be, and we can't help it sometimes.
I hope my suggestions regarding biotin and avoiding excess vitamin A are helpful to you.

You should wear a 'RIP Hair' hat because your hair is already dead when it's attached to your head.
----------------------------------------------------
Yes, but at least it is actively growing when still attached to my head.
Scott
Wow, how long have you been puting hair in there, and how much does it weigh.
you could probably make another Scott with all that hair!
------------------------------------------------------
It contains about 6 years of shed hair. I need go to take a few minutes to weigh it. I'm back. Wow, it weighs a mere 167 grams, despite its great volume, which is about as large as my head. I took a photo, well actually 2. Here they are. Yeah, I know, I am a bit weird.

I like to think theres something a bit weird about all of us.
I treat all of my 11 guitars like people and they all have names...
and I'm super obsessed with music 3899 songs on my ipod, no reapeats, no downloads, all rock, blues and funk. as soon as i get out to a music store ill have a couple hundred more. i usually listen to music while I'm watching TV too.
----------------------------------------------------
That's pretty cool, you named all your guitars. I nearly always have the TV on when on the longhair board here.
Another thing, I keep a spreadsheet on how much hair I shed. It goes back to September 2005. I will tweak my diet and supplements to control excess shedding. My compulsiveness has paid off, my hair reaches my knees.
Scott
Yeah its obviously paid off, I hope i can get that length. I start doing things like that whither it be hair, practising something on guitar, or whatever else. But I allways lose motivation after a couple of weeks.
I also am really into the conspiracy theories about the moon landing, loch ness monster, bigfoot, aliens and all that.
Thanks for the info, Scott. What does MSM stand for ... probably monosodium something or other. With the results you've obtained, I'll try the same supplement to see if I can coax a few more inches out of my mane. I started taking biotin last year. The goatee seems destined to reach mid-thigh length, with or without dietary help:)

Methylsulfonylmethane helps your joints as well as your hair. You may be able to get more length by using it. It extends the growth cycle of your hair.

This may sound strange but I shed more in the autumn and winter.
maybe it's the fine hair and dry conditions cause more breakage.
