Just wanted to share a little old but sad longhair story of a guy I know, wich I just got in my mind after several months...
This guy who goes in my school just in a different class had such awesome over shoulders wavy/curly hair. He must have grow it for almost 2 years I think. One day,on January,I've seen him hanging around in school with a buzzcut! That made me wonder what the heck happened...
So one day I decided to make friends with him,he's a nice guy,he's into rock and metal music too. He told me he lost his longhair cause he went to an hairsalon to get his split ends cut,but his mother has been talking with the hairdresser and told him instead of cutting only the split ends to completely shave her kid's head. The hairdresser for strange reasons agreed and when the guy went there got his 2 years growth vanished in 2 minutes. I have no idea if he's re-growing it,I haven't ask,but I bet he is. I wonder how's his progress going..I'll find out on september.
His parents have so much control on him...they don't even let him wear the shirts of the bands he likes to listen to and his dad warned him that if he dared to get his ear pierced he would throw him out of home. Isn't that being a little harsh?
Now,does anyone else have any sad longhair story of himself or friend? I have none of myself since my parents always allowed me to do whatever I liked with my hair, except dying it wild colors. I guess nowaday my mom wouldn't care if I dyed my hair a wild color anymore but I can't cause that would mean bleaching and ruining it..
Nothing that bad, but I did once have my mum collude with a stylist to cut way too much of my hair off. I was 20 and in college at the time (I'm now 51). My advice is always that you should never go to the salon with a parent, not ever!
My buddy that I went into the Coast Guard with in the 50s went on a 4 months weather cruise. He grew a really nice handlebar mustash. On their last night at sea someone snipped half of it off as he slept. He only had pictures to show everyone.
I had a friend of mine in high school whose brother shaved one of his eyebrows off in his sleep. Not quite the same as having someone shave off something you've spent time growing, but still, it goes to show you how "nice" family members can be.
Thats pretty nuts
Im not trying to be a rough guy, but I would probably punch the barber right in the teeth if he pulled that kind of move on me
I've only been growing my hair out for 13 weeks now and I'm already taking precautionary measures for my hair:
a. went to home depot and replaced my bedroom door, so none of my alcoholic roommates are tempted to sneak in and play around with my hair
b. went to visit my barber, because i didnt want him to think i went with someone else, but made sure to go right before work so he couldnt somehow brainwash me into a haircut
c. made bets with a few girlfriends of mine that i wouldnt cut the hair until 2010.. i consider my word alone to suffice, but now that i have some actual money involved its not just an issue of whether i like it or not!!
Wow, I am at a loss for words.
I wonder if his mom has figured out that this will only work once. Thats why I just completely stay away from barbers and cut my own hair (once you can bring it over your shoulders to see it its not that hard). My parents are divorced and have shared custody. If either of my parents did that (not that i think they would) I would be permanantly in either the others house or my grandparents.
I think me and Paul are somehow related for how little tolerance we both have for this type of thing, can't wait to see what he has to say about this.
I grew up in a crazy religion, and was not allowed to grow my hair long (questionable Biblical "rational"ization). I finally grew it out after attending a crazy-religious college. At one point I did get one ear pierced, and my father threatened to rip the earring out of my ear. If I recall the quote properly: :"You want to to be a woman with that long hair and earring? How about I rip off your **** too, then you can be the girl you seem to want to be." Now looong after high school and college (and familial residence), I have long hair and my father hasn't made a single remark about it for years. I think I'm a bit too old for earrings now, but one can dream .....
** not all religion is crazy
*** however, the one in which I was raised was f****ng nutter.
Quite a story Andrea, I can see how that happened. My last hair cut was October 2005, but I actually started February 2005, then my wife talked me into a "trim" with her stylist. Well they all ganged up on me and badgered me into "trying" short hair "just this once". I felt cornered. But guess what, that strengthen me and I set my resolve not to step foot in her establishment again, Ever! It also taught me to let negative comments roll off of me

Same here, a haircut is what made me stop getting haircuts.
I cannot believe that atrocities such as this still continue in this day and age. Whenever I read about stuff like this, I am fortunate that my parents are very caring and open minded.
Also, if he didn't want nearly that much taken off, told his stylist that, and the stylist went and did it anyway, couldn't the stylist get in some sort of trouble?
What I don't think people who are against long hair on males realize, is the sheer dedication that it takes. It isn't as simple as getting it cut short, and then just going back to having long hair again. Becoming a longhair is a long, and often, difficult process. Whenever I read about someone being forced into getting a haircut, it makes me cringe. It is the ultimate form of disrespect in my opinion. The transition from short hair to long takes years, and I don't think many who are against it fully understand this, nor do they understand just how attached many of us get to our locks. We made the decision to grow our hair long, some for different reasons, but the one thing we all have in common is that we just plain like it long. We aren't hurting anyone, we're just trying to do our thing.
What happened to live and let live?
What happened to each their own?

You're completely right,D-B! (Dalena Banshee. XP)
Unfortunally at the world there's still such unfair persons...

This happened to me back in 2006. I had only been growing my hair out for... 5 months but it was the longest I ever remember it (about 3 inches long lol). I admittedly didn't take care of my hair - the ends were dry and split like crazy. I went to trim the damaged ends off but my mum had done the appointment and had told the hairdresser to shave my hair all off. When I got there I told the hairdresser I wanted maybe an inch cut off, and she got out the buzzer and I couldn't do anything. I walked out of there with a buzzcut. I was so mad.
Since then if I went to a hairdresser either I made the appointment myself or didnt tell my mum about it at all. Miraculously every time after I cut my hair, it was actually trimmed, not shaved. However I haven't been to a hairdresser in about 2 years now.. I get my sister to trim off the worst ends on my hair (however she cuts it unevenly and a bit much). But i think that's better than a hairdresser cutting off too much, I don't trust them.
Just thought I'd tell you that this kind of thing doesn't only happen to your friend. The good thing is that soon he'll be moving out of his parents' house :)
I have another sad longhair story...
After 1 year i finally spoke with my good old internet friend, from sweden. We talked and he told me he's in pretty poor situation,he can't afford so many things...he can't even afford haircuts, that's why he grew his hair bellybutton lenght!
The sad thing is 2 days ago his dad visited him and told him he looked like a hobo and offered to pay him a haircut. My friend agreed so he's back as a shorthair now...that's a pity. But he will grow it again,he got used to long hair! And his hair grows real fast,it takes him 1 year and a half to reach chest lenght from a buzzcut. It's impressive.
A 1 year old photo of his hair.
damn, atleast that one wasn't as cutthroat.
where is paul to bring these people down, he hasn't been here for almost a week
Damn.
Who is this hairdresser anyway?
I'm amazed he didn't get a black eye. I hope, at least, your friend didn't pay him.
Paul
You know, that's the first thing I asked my friend. He said he HAD to pay him/her since his mom didn't pay,she just spoke to him/her.
