I'm a couple of weeks from the actual 3 year mark but thought I'd share my progress.
I'm quite pleased with how everything has turned out and how accepted my long hair has been.
The current state is with me clean-shaven. The "bearded" pix are from February.
Thanks to everyone for their support over the last three years.
I still don't know how "long" I'm going to go, but I certainly haven't come up with a good sustainable reason to cut.
AndrewB
I was just looking at your post about wearing hair back and was wondering how long your hair actually was since in your pic its just above shoulder length.
I was actually just wondering how long your hair was the other day too. Nice hair, can't wait to get there myself. Congrats!
This halloween I'll have to get a new profile picture done. I dress my sloop up as a pirate ship and me as the resident pirate. It's become a popular stop, last year I had a number of people with video cameras out.
I even have a small (non-projectile) cannon that I fire off. You'd be surprise at how fast a 5 year-old can run in a princess outfit ....
AndrewB
Hahaha that's awesome. I'm currently looking to buy a sailboat myself and I was planning on doing the pirate thing during halloween of next year. I live in the Tampa Bay area and we have an awesome "pirate invasion" followed by a parade called Gasparilla every year around Febuary. I should have hair a little shorter than your avatar by then. If I have a boat by time that rolls around I may just bring it to the invasion in all my pirate glory. And then send the pics to Lats and Atts. Now... to get me one of them cannons...
I've attached a link to how I built mine. I wanted it to look like a ship's gun and wasn't happy with the models available.
The short story is that I use Calcium Carbide which, when wetted, off-gasses acetylene. One spark and "bang". The same chemical used to be used in lanterns. I got a couple of small tubes from Big Bang Cannons online.
It's a lot of fun but I'm very sure to not fire a projectile even though if you search youtube for carbide cannon you'll see lots of people doing it. I don't have confidence that the cannon wouldn't burst eventually if I did that.

My cannon
LOL
just read this online horror story-screnplay thing. Thanks for making me laugh and feel better
Thanks, that was 2 1/2 years for me, then you have people like Hegg who get almost to their waste in 3 years.
Really nice hair! Congratulations for reaching (almost) 3 years of hair growing journey! Hope you'll keep it up,since it looks really good.
-Andrea
Thank you for your kind comments. I'm pretty happy with it and can't think of any reason to cut it. I think 3 years is a "hump" stage as I've seen a bunch of posters who have cut at this stage. I think it might be because you've reached a significant stage and from this point on, you (I'm guessing) won't see as dramatic of results in the short term.
AndrewB
Cool! Great update Andrew.
I wanted to say that I do love the pirate pic. Lol, When you update your avatar I hope you don your pirate garb once again.
Paul
Thanks Paul - I have great fun at halloween. I was thrilled when the while out for breakfast with my wife the Sunday after last year, a small boy a couple of tables down was pointing at me and saying "there's the pirate"
AndrewB
Beautiful hair Andrew. I have been growing mine for about 4 years and it's about your length but your hair is so much more fuller. I like it.
Thank you for your kind comment. I've been quite happy with how full my hair is, it's got a good volume for braiding or putting up although I find that I run out of length too quickly - I keep thinking - "another foot and it will be just perfect for this braid" ...
AndrewB
Hi Andrew. You may not yet know how long to let your hair grow out but certainly getting a cut should not even be in the equation my friend. Why would you even think that when you have such a great mane! You look quite different minus the beard but either way you look great.Cheers
Mark
Thanks Mark.
The beard is an annual thing for me - it goes on about late August and comes off in March. I've been told that it ages me by about 10 years and it gets in the way of ice-cream cones but it certainly makes a difference during the cold weather.

Hi Andrew,
What a truly outstanding update, and you have come a long ways in only 3 years. I am envious of your thickness, and you should have no problems growing it a lot longer because of that. Also, that is great to know that your long hair is accepted by others as well.
Keep it growing,
David

Nice!! My wife and I have come to the agreement that I can window-shop all I like, I just can't go near the door. And heaven help me if I were to actually examine the products!!! [GRIN]
P.S. She, of course, has the same privilege
Looks good. Personally, I think you look better with the beard, but I'm biased that way :D
You make a very valid point, my friend, but I'll just have to get by. Don't plan on ever letting my chin see the light of day again.
Great change from the other picture, I really like the length.
Thanks - I find this length to be great because I can now do some of the braiding I've been wanting to do and not end up with a "stubby".
AndrewB
Looking good and that is great length for three years.
As I have mentioned in a couple of threads now, the current fashion for younger guys is to have some facial hair. You photos with facial hair and dress shirt look great.
Thanks for Sharing
WWT
Thanks WWT - I wear the "monkey suit" 4 days/week usually with my hair up in a bun. This past spring I re-invested in my wardrobe (still paying for it) and got some higher end shirts, jackets, and pants and wanted a picture. It's amazing the difference it can make in your appearance to wear well fitted quality clothes.
AndrewB
Looking great and keep it growing.
Cheers,

Hey Andrew,
Looking great at 3 years!
- Oren
Excellent update Andrew, you look very dashing all dressed up.
No good reason to cut, but a thousand good reasons not to!
Keep it growin'
Bruce
Thanks Bruce - one of the reasons I posted that picture of me in the monkey suit is so that people who have doubts about being a professional with long hair can see someone who is.
AndrewB
looks great Andrew! you def came a long way and hope you grow it longer and longer congrads on 3 years of growth thats very long hair sir! :)
Nice update Andrew, the shirt and tie goes to show we longhairs do clean up nicely.
Kevin
Thanks Kevin. Hopefully it will help with some of the regular myths people ask about thinking you can't look professional with long hair.
AndrewB
Great progress Andrew, congratulations on three years, you have a good rate of growth I would say. Excellent!
