I just got a new brush, for about $5. It seems to reach through my layers of hair better. Well it feels great and I liked the results so I'm sharing them. I'd like to post all the pics all on one page here, but I I'm so computer illiterate I don't know how.
I shaved my face on the whim tonight by the way. I don't know if I look better or worse without any facial hair, it's rather thin. My wife complains about being poked by whiskers and asks me to shave it, but last time I did she told me to grow it back. What's your opinion?
My facial hair grows the same as yours, it will take a few more years to develop completely.
Both looks good on you, with the facial hair you look a bit older.
I change my apperance now and than, sometimes nothing, sometimes goatee and mustache, right now only the goatee.
Just do whatever you like best yourself!
Thanks Vincent. My facial hair is pretty weird, blond, red, and black so it looks even thinner than it actually is. I do have a bunch of baby hairs, (more then can be seen in the photo) coming in the sides so maybe someday...
Mustache! I think it would work with your face. Not always a good thing for all guys, but a stache would work for you
Interesting, maybe I'll try it out.
The current fad seems to be for guys to sport about three to six days of facial hair growth. This really looks great with dark hair on young, chiseled faces.
Looks horrible with white/gray hair on old, fat wrinkles....sigh..
Looks good on you...my vote for you is to go with the facial hair.

lol, thanks. When my wife saw that I shaved she was upset...
Women...
That's because it wasn't her idea this time. LOL
Looks like that $5 brush works well for you. If it's cheap and works - great!
Re: this beard=scratchy thing...Sometimes women will come to me and ask if they can feel my long beard. They are often amazed at how soft it is.
Too many Gillette ads on the tube gettin' to her brain...

Best five bucks I've spent in a while it seems. Do you condition your beard, or is it naturally that soft especially once it reaches a certain length?
Yes - I condition the beard.
Conditioner or not, you'll find the beard much softer after a month or two of untrimmed growth.

Hey. The hair's looking really good man! By the way, to be honest I like the clean shaven look better.
I don't have great facial hair but I keep the chin hair at 3/8 an inch. I may start just clean shaving for a while...
Thanks Adam, I'm not used to being clean shaven so I guess that I was a little shocked to how I looked without facial hair.
I think you should try it with a stash only but you look good with or without facial hair. Myself. if I remove my beard and stash, I don't recognize myself in the mirror so I keep it close trimmed.
I was wondering who that kid was in the mirror after I shaved. Really was surreal. lol.
Looks like the brush works well for you, your hair is coming along nicely.

Thank you Bruce, I still have a ways to go before reaching "longhair" status. This being my first time growing my hair out I'm still learning how to properly care for it. I'm just ecstatic that I found a decent brush for my hair type.
Hi Oneeye,
As another fellow computer-idiot user here, I can totally relate (LOL)!! As far as your hair goes, though, it's lookin' EXCELLENT!!!
As my own hair got longer and longer, the brushes I found to work the best on me ended up being 2 favorites: 1) a wooden-bristle brush; 2) a boar's hair bristle brush. The wooden one did a great job of reaching through the layers of my hair in order to stimulating my scalp (which helps blood flow to the scalp, thus nourishing the hair roots). The boar's bristle brush I learned about from jonalbear here, as a good "finishing brush", --- helps to better distribute the natural hair oils on down to the hair ends (where the oils are needed the most).
By the way, I was told a long time ago by a longhaired female friend of mine to NEVER use a brush on your hair when it's wet, --- because hair is weakest when wet, and more likely to break then. It's better to use a wide-toothed comb on wet hair (or, better yet, to finger-comb, first). I only use a brush on my hair when it's totally dry.
in any case, your hair is lookin' GREAT, --- happy growing!!!

Thank you Ken, the $5 brush actually is a wooden boar bristle brush, just a cheapo cushioned with bristles which are firm enough to reach my scalp. I used to brush while wet but began to see some broken hair, now I just comb it back until it dries, then part with the brush.
I still am saving up for a higher quality boar brush, actually I think it was one of your posts that I read back a couple months ago that convinced me to buy my first bristle brush. Big improvement over how my hair looked then, so thank you very much.
I definitely want a quality boar bristle brush, may I ask which brand you use? I also am interested in horn and/or bone combs as well!

Not always the case, I have noticed no actual difference in regards to breakage if I brush when wet or dry. I do get what appears to be more shed hairs in the brush when I brush when wet, but that is shed hairs and not to do with breakage as well as wet hair has more volume to it than dry hair does. An inspection of the hair ends will tell you what you got.
Most of the time I can't wait until my hair is dry before I brush and braid it (if I did the results would be unpleasent to TRY to brush out, in which case dry hair would prove to case more breakage). Occationally I'm not so hurried that I can wait until my hair is dry before brushing. I've inspected the hairs caught in my brush in both cases numerous times, and I just don't see any difference that would be noteworthy.
On the logic scale it defies what nature tells us. Assume for a minute that we have two small woody plants, one is dry while the other is green and quite alive. Walk up to them both and break them in half....which one snaps with ease and which one is tolerant of what your doing to it and just bends to your will. Moisture gives the green plant what it needs to allow it to bend without breakage, but take away the moisture and it is intolerent to change and breaks off in your hand. Although hair is different because moiture doesn't bring life to hair, the concept of moisture softening and the dry making brittle remains constant.

Nice hair! It's ready for a nice hair growing journey. Looking good!
