Finally I'm going to an amusement park on Wednesday, alone or with my friends, possibily.
I was just wondering, should I keep my hair tied in a ponytail when going on the rides or let it down? I've seen many people (males and females) with long hair going on the rides with their hair down, but doesn't that much wind damage hair? The rides go pretty fast usually so it's really windy in there.
I like the feeling of wind in my hair but I don't know if THAT much wind is safe for it.
What's the best thing to do?

As with certain jobs, be aware of moving pieces of equipment, pinch points and places where hair can get caught.
Tie it in a ponytail/bun or keep it well secured under a cap....then go enjoy the roller coaster !!
Yeah,that's true,those rides are tricky,hair can get caught...thanks for the advice! I'd go for a ponytail. :D
-Andrea
I'd either put it in a tail, or if its long enough, a braid or segmented ponytail.
My hair is long enough for a braid but I'm not able to braid it at all! XP I'd rather tie it in a ponytail as always.

Another thing to do is tie your hair in ponytail, but on the last pass through the hair tie, only pull your tail half-way through. It gets the hair off your neck and offers more control over it. Less wind-tangling, etc.

Hi Andrea, a roller coaster can move at 30 meters per second. Wind of this velocity can badly tangle and possibly damage your hair. I would highly recommend a segmented ponytail. Use one hair tie for each 7 to 8 centimeters of tail length. (see image) Another option is a braid.

Thanks for the advice,Scott! Yes,sometimes under the rides there's a huge sign giving details about it...speed,construction type, ecc.

Hi Andrea,
Sounds great!
As a fellow roller coaster enthusiast myself, I have found that a multi-segment tail (like Scott's below) works well.
The short hairs on the top that do not reach the ponytail ties, sometimes tend to get a little tangled.
After a day of coastering, I take the ties off and gently finger-comb the hairs on top of my head, or I'll just take a shower and wash/condition my hair and let the condition/rinse smooth out those hairs.
I've never had any tangles in the long hair that was in the tail.
If you wear eyeglasses or sunglasses that fall off easily, get a head strap for those.
Hair length can be issue with go-karts since the engine is usually right behind you. If doing go-karts, I just drop my tail down my shirt.
Have fun!

Hey,thanks for the nice advices,Oren! I don't go on go-karts usually, I don't like to be bumped by strangers. XD I just enjoy roller coasters and other fast going rides.

I used to ride the amusement park rides with hair just flowing free. Never occured to me to contain it. Now that I think of it, I rode on the back of my brother's motorcycle with my long hair blowing in the wind behind. ;-) Ahhhhhh... those were the days. No more amusement parks or motorcycles for me. Now I tail my hair before going anywhere in a car with windows down, so it doesn't turn into a windswept tangled mess. :-D
I ride a motorcycle.sometimes with it down and blowing free, it does get really knotted, but I don't worry about it, I just get the tangles out a few days later when I condition it.
I must admit I don't take any care of my hair, but it seems to be hanging in there!!

There is nothing that feels better than having the wind blowing though your hair, the ultimate longhair experience! That being said, there is nothing worst than trying to undo what the wind has done. I think you should tail it Andrea.
Have Fun!

Wow, I can't be in a slow car with the window down without having the side of my head being a tangled afro. (I oldy did that once and learned from it)
and I was the first view on youtube:)
I once seen a longhair horror story on TV. A young girl who got her hair and scalp literally snatched off on a ride at an amusement park. They were able to graft it back on to her head and she was fine but the whole thing made me cringe.
I won't even ride a damn merry go-round with my hair down.

Ok, NOW I'm scared. O.O
Gonna tie my hair for sure!!!

anyway...
now Im more paranoid about things taking my hair than I was before
Yeah, I'm leaning on the "find some way to put your hair up" side.
A french braid would be better than a ponytail as it gets longer. The longer your hair, the more likely it's going to get caught/in the way, but a french braid is held lower on your head and you can just tuck it in a shirt or something. You can do it with a braid, but french and dutch braiding is more secure.
But if you're at the length of your avatar, a ponytail should be fine. Plus, on the other side, hair gets in the WAY on rides. I made the mistake of wearing my not-yet-shoulder-length-but-really-to-my-nipples hair down to go to a carnival, and it was a pain in the ass.
