We recently took a mini-vacation to Atlanta. Our first night there, we went to Medieval Times (by the way our son Vincent was celebrating his 5th birthday and was knighted by the "king". Very cool.). Most of the men working here were long hairs. Not only do they "allow" them to have long hair, they actually encourage them to grow it. WOW!!!!
We loved it and will return, but not soon enough for me (lol).
Hi Paul,
Sounds like a great place to visit and great to see a longhair friendly place. I've been to ATL a few times and made some nice friends there and not a buzz in sight! Might to check out this place on the grand tour of the east and south in October.
Cheers,
John.B
Hey John
It is a great place, and everyone there is super friendly.
Angel
Hey John, wrong KMF. Lol, that was Angel's post.
Anyway, you are right, I did see a few buzzes but not as many as Alabamy.
Another thing I was sure glad to not see much of is that stupid "cupped red neck baseball cap" thing. You know, where they turn the bill down on the outside edges, god! I hate that. I saw 2 of 'em the whole time we were there.
Paul
Hmmmmmmmm, you know what sticks in my craw worse than that????Its when guys wear baseball caps either sideways or the bill towards the back of their heads!Hey, don't you know where the front of your head is!!!!LOL.No offense to you sideways or backwards baseball cap wearers.Yea!LOL.Guess I'm just weird I suppose.
Mark
I have a friend called Bob (not a longhair) who says that if they wear their cap sideways they are at least half educated, LOL!
You know,I never realized that maybe there was a deeper meaning there.I tend to agree with your friend Bob on that one though:)HA!
Hey, what's wrong with bending the bill edges down! Maybe it's 'cause I'm from a very small town, but that's normal for me haha. It actually helps keep more sun out of my eyes.
In relation to the OP though, I've been to one of those medieval things as well and they are a great time!
Yes half-educated, sideways and when they wear em on backwards they are what educators used to call backward before political correctness reared it's ugly head. Reminds me of a joke about sport fans being called backward - they read the sports section at the rear of the newspaper first usually turning the pages in reverse!
And don't get me started on the gay gangsta hip hop baggy pants dropped half way down their ass thing. Looks just retarded. Guys who wear caps at a different angle don't look so stupid as that. But often both go together. At least around where I live where I see wanna-be-gangster losers.
Duncan
hey, better than than a shaved head with a completely flat billed hat and the size sticker still on it.
Boy, I'd sure like to know where in Atlanta you went--I thought this was Crewcut Frat Guy Central down here. (Heck, the Goths don't even have long hair anymore, it seems.)
Haven't been to Medieval Times yet--I'd like to go some time. (But then, being such a stickler for detail, I'd probably complain so much I couldn't enjoy it...)

It is actually in Lawrenceville @ Discover Mills (I think that is the name of the mall). You actually have to enter the mall to get to it. Paul says that it was historical fantasy. It was great. Paul really loved it and he is a bigger Medieval fan than the rest of us.

Yeah, I knew it was around there somewhere; I didn't know it was in the mall. Sorry I missed ya! ;-) I'm glad you found ATL to your liking.

I suppose that's a good way of describing it. Most men didn't really wear their hair that long back then, and let's not even talk about King Henry V of England and his bowl-crop cut! (That would be around 1415, when the Battle of Agincourt was fought.)
From what I can tell, the best time medieval-long-hair-wise would be the High Renaissance, around 1500 or so; before and right after then it's more of a "page boy" look, and then Henry-VIII-style short hair. I think it was permissible to be an exception back then, though.

Like with Paul and Angel my friends are in Lawrenceville and not downtown Atlanta or on the MARTA!
Certainly sounds like a place to visit for dinner in October.
Cheers,
John.B
PS...Sorry Angel I realised after writing it and well corrected Paul :-)
hell yea Medieval times are the best! and thats great that they let men grow their hair long damn every place needs to be like that lol :) sounds like all of you had fun!
Hey I live 20 minutes from there! haha
I'm actually tempted to apply now ;)
Nice!
At Silver Dollar City (an amusement park in Branson, MO) there are long-haired and long-bearded men working there. Fits in with the Ozarks theme of the park. In fact, while I was at Silver Dollar City, some people commented to one another while glancing towards me "Must be one of the locals" - I love it.
300 to 500 feet below Silver Dollar City are enormous limestone caverns that you take a tour of. The amusement park grew around these caverns. It's nice escape from the summertime heat, too.

I've mentioned that place in the past, as a longhair friendly place. They have on here in Maryland. There is a website with lots of photos. Nothing like a knight in shining armour with flowing long locks. :-)
I agree. of course I had to get my picture taken with all of those long hair knights (even the "king" and the m.c. who also had long hair). Paul even talked one of them into taking his hair down for the picture.
Hey Sweety! See, I told you I'd wait and let you post about our trip first.
You did leave out the part about the bar when you can get bloody smashed before you go in to see the show. lol.
It was also fun seeing those "short hair" diners looking so out of place.
Paul
Do you actually mean to tell me that this kind of place is a YEAR-ROUND amusement park? Very cool!!! I've never heard of Medieval Times before, and also just read Oren's reply where he mentions "Silver Dollar City" in Missouri.
Out here on the West Coast we have Renaissance Faires, both in Northern and Southern CA. I've met a few guys who have worked at them; but, they are only a seasonal gig. I'm a bit ashamed to admit this, but I've never been to a Ren Fair (YET, at least - lol).... OK, 30 lashes with a Medieval wet noodle, then drag me off to the dungeon until I sober up and straighten out (lol)!!
- Ken
There is one in Buena Park. I'm not sure where that is, but thought you may want to know.
You should really check out a Ren. Faire. We haven't been to one in years, but it was really cool.

There are 8 of these in the US and one in Canada. I looked at their website, and nearly all the men have long hair. I wish they had one in the SF Bay Area.

Hey Scott,
Thanks for posting the link.
They have one in Buena Park, if that helps. I have no idea where that might be.
We intend on going again, and we'd like to visit everyone of them at least once.
The attitude was definitely pro-longhair. I did tell them about this board, the "King" was especially interested.
The "Falconer" was a lady, she insisted I wear her cape in the pic I took with her. She didn't do that for anyone else, made me feel... special. Lol
Paul
Best wishes,
Josh
I have been wanting to visit that place ever since I heard they built one here in Georgia. I never get up that far north though.
Glad you guys had a good time in ATL. Medieval Times is a little expensive though, and like Paul remarked, not historically accurate -- though I suppose any restaurant that accurately reflected medieval culture wouldn't be too popular --what with the lack of food due to irregular weather patterns from the Little Ice Age and such. haha.
It is cool however how the knights have long locks -- I imagine there were long-haired knights for real though. Enough material and literary evidence here and there supports the conjecture.
I havn't been there in ages, but now I really want to go!
The royal visit in October will be passing thru GA so sounds with a bit of a knees up :-)
We'll mark that one on the calendar. Since there why not stop.
